When I woke, I was on a bed. Well, if you could call it a bed. My arms and legs were restrained with metal cuffs. I had a killer headache for who knows why.
"Hello, (y/n)." A female voice said. I recognized her. Her name was Mercy.
"Mercy?" I asked to make sure.
"Yes?" She said politely. Maybe she had forgiven me.
"Why does my head hurt so much?" I asked.
"Oh, you can blame Solder 76 for that, he told Ana to make the dose double the regular." She said apologetically.
"Oh." Was all I could say.
With nothing else to do, I looked around the infirmary room. The walls were off-white with small splotches of a maroon color from what I can only assume to be blood. Oddly, the sight didn't irk me.
The sound of the door opening shook me from my thoughts. Who ever had walked in made no attempt at being quiet.
"Mercy, give us a moment." It was Soldier 76.
Mercy must have made her exit because 76 walked to my bedside and tilted his head down at me.
"Hello." I said breathless.
"..." He just stared back.
"Look I know you want an explanation as to why I left and I'll give it to you but please, first can I have some food?" I asked.
He spoke in to his com so low that I couldn't hear. Then he nodded in the slightest as if to tell me to explain. Sheesh, has this man ever heard of words?
"Look, I don't know what came over me but he bribed me and said that I would be treated better and he confused me and I didn't know what happened and then we were in a strange room and I was on a chair and he put something on my head and it really hurt and then I found myself in his arms and he told me I was his only one and that I wouldn't have to worry about overwatch any longer as long as I stayed hy his side." It all came out at once and I was left gasping for air.
"What on earth are you talking about?" Soldier 76 asked sounding truly confused.
"Oh I- um- well that's how I remember it." I said quietly hoping he wouldn't hurt me.
"(Y/n), that's not how it happened at all." He said slowly.
"Wait, what?" I asked astonished.
"I was supposed to be guarding your back side and I didn't and he took you. I don't know where you're getting all of this from."
"B-but that's how it happened. I'm sure of it!" I exclaimed beginning to freak out. Was it all a lie?
He grasped my hand in his gloved one and said, "I don't know what you think happened, but what matters is that now you're here and safe." I could hear the smile in his voice.
"I don't understand, I almost killed you guys! How can you be so forgiving?" I still was confused.
"Because I know you couldn't kill me if you wanted to." He said with a slight chuckle.
My stomach decided to ruin the moment by signifying it was hungry. I gave a short laugh in spite of what I had just learned.
"This discussion will continue later, you have some food to eat and some people who have been waiting to see you." He said while releasing my restraints.
I tried to sit up but my headache worsened and I fell down in defeat.
"Could you grab some pillows?" I said.
He came back with 3 pillows and set them up so that I could comfortably sit upright.
The food came soon after that and Soldier 76 stayed with me the whole time.
I grew tired and asked him if my friends could wait for me to be fully rested. He nodded and took my empty plates.
When he returned my eyes were already almost fully closed. He let out a soft chuckle at the sight of my frail self.
"I'm cold," I tried to sound bold but my words slurred together making him laugh even harder.
Once he was done making fun of me, he took off his 76 jacket and layer it overtop of me. I was instantly warmer.
"Soldier 76?" I whispered. My eye lids were fully closed now.
"Yes?" He said softly.
"Thank you."
Whatever he said after that I didn't hear, for I was asleep.
