Margarethe left Dieter at the street and stumbled back to her apartment.
She wasn't very rich, actually she was considered poor, but she never told anyone about her financial troubles, not even her family. She didn't want them to help her. She wasn't one to take loans or be thought of as a needed of help, but she got around. She just had a diet of cabbage soup each night for dinner and rarely ate lunch. Her work didn't pay much, she worked at a local dress shop. She measured and cut the dresses, sometimes even made some herself, but she never got the right amount of pay.

Now before you start to pity our dear Margarethe, do realize that she finds this offensive. Even at her darkest hours of her mother's death she didn't want comfort, she was a strong woman who could handle herself. She set her hat on the rack and walked to her room to cry. Sometimes being alone made her sad and jealous of her brothers, but she had no one who loved her, or so she thought.

A dark haired man with a navy coat walked up the stairs of a rickety apartment to the floor of a young, motherless girl. He held a handkerchief in his hand that belonged to the girl. That man was Dieter of course, and the girl, Margarethe.
Margarethe heard a knock at her door and dried her tears. "Who could it be?" She wondered. Before she opened the door she peered out of the tiny little window. "The sakruel!" She whispered. "What did he want?" She thought. "He better not be here to apologize or something like that."
**********
Slowly she opened the door. "What?" She snapped.
"Sorry ma'am... Um you dropped this." He said handing her the handkerchief.
She grabbed it from his hand. "Thank you." She said. She looked behind her.
"Would you like to come in?" She asked.
He smiled ever so slightly. "Okay." He said.
She moved out of the way of the door and he walked in.
"So um... I'm sorry for snapping at you." She said.
"No no. You've been through a lot." He said.
"So you know about my mama?" She asked sounding disappointed.
"Da." He said.
