"I don't need your pity." She stated.
I could feel her anger, it was spreading across me, like a fog trapping me. I enjoyed it actually, because anger is powerful, I think that anger is even more powerful than death, sometimes I don't like being the most powerful.
"I wasn't planning on giving you pity." He admitted.
She flushed feeling embarrassed for her behavior. "Sorry." She said softly.
"Es ist in Ordnung." He said.
For those who don't speak German, which I do for I speak all languages, I shall need to give a translation.

Anyways, lets get back to eavesdropping. I do realize that that's bad, but I'm death, which is worse. I guess I just loved that girl Liesel, she touched me in my cold dark heart. I felt cruel taking her brother. Her mama and papa. And sweet little Rudy Steiner. Oh the boy with lemon hair, I grabbed his weak tiny soul in my hands. I don't regret it, but it did sting me, because that boy did really touch me, and that means a lot. Sometimes I wish I could take Liesel's mother, for then she would see what she has done, but for some reason she lives on. A ninety-seven year old woman who abandoned her children and lives in a nursing home that is still fighting. Why couldn't it be her? Liesel could've done so much more, but I got her to the big man. She gets to be with them now. So that makes me feel good I guess.
I felt like Liesel's legacy lived on, through her daughter of course, so I needed to narrate this legacy.
She scratched the back of her head and gave him a serious look. "Then why are you here? I know it's not just for this handkerchief." She said.
"Oh...." He sighed. "Um... I know this may be soon... But I just wanted to ask you if you would like to go to dinner with me sometime."
She was a little shocked. She felt wrong to get over a loved one so soon, she wasn't really sad anymore. She knew it was coming, her mother was very old and ill, but it just felt wrong to her.
"Okay... I'm available for Saturday?" She said.
"Saturday then." He smiled and handed her his number.
"Do you always carry this around?" She said sounding sassy.
"Oh... I may have written it down before I knocked on the door." He said blushing.
"You little flirt." She laughed making him turn even redder.

When he left, Margarethe actually felt happy. She wasn't happy in a long time, the only time she was happy was talking with her mother, and her mother lost the ability to talk two months before she passed. She felt flattered that a man was actually interested in her, she didn't find herself attractive and was very self conscious. Then she started to doubt, Saturday was two days away. She didn't know what she would wear or where they would go. She hoped it wouldn't be a surprise.
