Chapter 6!
Watch out; the Point of View changes in the middle of the story!! Here u goes!! 😁❤
*Joanne's POV*
The bell rang that signaled the end of first period band yanked me out of my flood of thoughts. The rest of the day flew by as fast as first period did, and before I knew it, I was exhaustedly stumbling into my living room.
"What ran you over on the way here?" called an amused voice from behind me, making me jump and turn around.
"Nate..." I groaned. My best friend's form laid sprawled across my couch, and I couldn't help but let my thoughts wander to the figure in front of me.
With his sandy blonde hair, well-defined features, light hazel eyes, and his perfectly sculpted body, Nate was good looking, to say the least.
"Yes?" he said innocently, snapping me out of my staring session.
'Oh damn. Where did that come from?! Control those thoughts and quit perving on your best friend's body!'
I thought to myself angrily.
"Nevermind," I sighed aloud, blushing slightly.
"So," Nate said, lifting himself off the couch and strolling over to where I stood.
"So what?" I replied curiously,
"So what happened? Do I have some stupid a-whole to jump today?" he asked, half joking half serious.
I rolled my eyes and groaned out loud. "Why do you even want to know?"
He snapped his head up and his hazel eyes locked with mine, an unknown emotion surging through them.
"Because I care about you," he said so softly that, had I not been listening, I wouldn't have heard him.
I sighed, knowing that he meant that only as friends...but I couldn't place my finger on what that flash of an unknown emotion in his eyes was.
"Yeah," I murmered, clearing up the awkward atmosphere. "You really are an awesome friend."
*Nate's POV*
Disappointment surged through my body, as I realized that that would be the only thing Joanne would ever see me as. A friend.
And I would be lying if I said I didn't want to be more.
"Nate?" Joanne's soft voice jerked me out of my wishful thinking. "You totally zoned for a minute there!" she laughed.
"Oh," I chuckled humourlessly. "Sorry bout that." I seriously hoped she didn't catch me staring at her like I occasionally caught myself doing.
I nervously moved my hand up to run it through my hair, bumping into Joanne in the process.
'Woah,' I thought. ' When did we get so close?'
She seemed to think the same thing, because she jumped about a foot back, muttering under her breath.
The space next to me where she had occupied just moments before now felt empty, and I suddenly had an unexplainable urge to close the gap between us again.
My feet seemed to move on their own, and before I could register what I was doing, I had Joanne's small body in a tight embrace.
We stayed like that for a minute or so more until I finally let go of her.
"You looked like you needed a hug," I smiled gently.
"Yeah," she whispered slowly. "Thanks Nate."
