After a few weeks of full-out practices , minor injuries such as broken fingers and fractured toes and a few dizzy spells and panic attacks - the biggest injury was Anna's , a broken leg and the reason why she didn't make it to practices or school , the squad was ready to perform for the very first time. They were to perform there routine 3 times in the day , meaning morning , midday and evening. A sign read : Sundown cheer squad to perform new and improved unbelievably epic routine in front of the carousel at the following times today : 11:15 AM , 1:45 PM and 5:30 PM. Come and support!". Genie looked at the way the carnival owners had described the routine and whispered to her team mates - "no pressure" and they all laughed with synchronisation. A few hours after they went around the carnival , it was time to perform. The morning run was perfect, not a fail or a flaw - The midday routine was fabulous but one fall was made in a stunt group. That stunt group then practiced many times before the night time run through , the one where most locals were attending. Genie saw in the crowd her Auntie Sylvia , two cousins Melody and Archie and her baby brother Jordan sat in his push chair with Genies mum Sahara controlling it. Genie turned from the unexpected distractions , put her head down and her arms by her side , then waited for the music to arrive into the carnival. The music started and Genie began to tumble. "One , three , back five jump seven go 1 , 3 ..." she continued for the rest of the routine. She had fought through all of her tumble passes and succeeded for the past minute , but she still had one pass she needed to perform in the last 15 seconds which she performed alone. It was as if she finished the routine off. She needed to get through this tumble. She heard the voice over start to sing out the teams name and began to count. "5,6,7,8 ..." and there she ran for her tumble pass. Round-off tuck. "Feet together and tuck , land , YE- Ouch ouch ow ow ..." she landed her tumble and ended the routine with the signature pose , however as she landed she felt a crack in her ankle. The music stopped and suddenly she collapsed to the floor as her ankle began to flop around with no control. A tear dropped down her face. She believed she had broken her ankle ...
