The first day of school is always rough. However, this wasn't the first day of school, it was the middle of November. I was sitting with a book in hand, and eating my lunch alone. That's when he walked up.
It took me about two minutes to look up from John Green's latest novel to finally notice him. I quickly lowered my book and felt myself blushing. Little did I know that this was the beginning of a beautiful love story.
All my life I've always been "that smart girl." Nothing more and nothing less. I was treated like a freaking genius and nobody really talked to me. They must've thought I was some type of robot disguised as a human. All my teachers loved me though. I was never late, never forgot my homework, never failed a test. I was perfect. Not. I had absolutely no friends but one. My very best friend Chad, he stood by me since kindergarten. He was the only one who treated me like an actual person, and I loved him for it.
My parents would always push me into doing things I didn't want to do. I took summer classes, worked jobs, and studied every night, but that was never good enough. The only advice they ever gave me was "Get into a good college Alyssa, and your future is set." Not. School has always been my priority, and by senior year, I was done. I wanted a life. I wanted so much more than to get into Stanford and become a lawyer. I wanted to be happy.
As for my crush, it's always been the same. Brian Carmen. He was perfect. Brian was the type of guy who took the pretty girl to prom, he was captain of the football team, class president and really, really hot. I've never talked to him, and I don't think he even knows my name. That is, until senior year.
