Tollie didn't dare speak up, though West had looked to her to answer first. Saying she wanted to rescue her brother first would be selfish, leaving West's family in harm's way. But...saying she wanted to rescue West's family would be leaving Riek in harm's way. No matter what, their decision would be hurting people. She just bit her lip, staring at the map helplessly.
Sensing her hesitation, Captain West spoke instead. "Much as I hate to own to it, going into the mountains blind could be a massacre, and much as I also hate to own to it – as it admits my guilt in the situation yet again, I DO know a bit about what we'd be facing gettin' dove's brother back...or at least more about how to get that information. Problem is it would take all the talent we've got in this room right now to even have a chance.
"I don't know what kind of men ye have under ya, nor how comfortable you'd feel" He said, glancing up towards her savior who had begun the whole conversation, "– but I'd say sending them up quietly, keeping themselves as low as possible to gather what knowledge they can – whilst we skitter off towards Echo Isles..." He pointed across the blue of the map a ways to where spots of brown spattered about one another in the middle of nowhere. "...It's possible we'd all be coming back at about the same time..."
He looked over to Tollie, who nodded once tensely, then back over to the others...

Clarity

"That settles it, then. My men can be in the mountains within a week, and we can start expecting information shortly afterwards. As for us we should sail as soon as possible. I'd hate for the princess to be without her brother for a moment longer that necessary..." Hawke and West quickly came to terms, both being familiar with what information they would need and what resources a body of men would require. In that regard she was as entirely out of her depth as the princess was. She knew only what she needed for her own survival.

Just as she was thinking this the princess' eyes came up to meet hers and they were brimming with hope, and maybe joy. In that moment the calculations that usually came along with this type of situation stopped in Clarity's head. Maybe it was the absurdity of this situation, maybe it was her new feeling of freedom, or maybe it was the warrior standing close to her, but she felt something other than an end result for this girl. In the inn she had decided that this girl would probably die, because she probably would, but all of a sudden Clarity was filled with determination that that would not happen. Not if she could prevent it. She would go on this absurd, against all odds adventure with this silly warrior, bright pretty princess, pirate with a conscience, and the princely Knight Commander, and she would make sure they won. "...we sail tomorrow at noon. Unless you have anything to add, Knight Commander?"
