Since the outbreak I've always been careful. I never strayed too far from a safe path, I always watched my back and I kept a strict routine that kept me alive until now but it's amazing how quickly everything can go to shit. All it took was one mistake and I found myself being caught by a hunter and heavily wounded. I managed to kill the fucker but the commotion had attracted a horde leave me with little choice but to run and hide. I limped my way to a nearby house and locked myself in the basement until the horde past. I flicked the switch which turned on a very dim bulb barely illuminating the room. I sat myself down where the light reached but the light didn't reach the entirety of the basement leaving me to look into the eerie darkness. I winced at the pain as I tried to move the torn shirt aside. The hunter really did a number on me, the wounds were deep but thankfully not fatal. I reached for my bag as I knew I had some spare medical supplies in there but before I could reach it I heard something. It sounded like quiet sobbing. That was a noise no survivor wanted to hear and I desperately believe that the blood loss was making me delusional or I was flat out wrong but if I was right then those sobs belong to one of the most dangerous undead, the witch.
My heart was beating out of my chest as her red orbs closely analysed me. I had never been so close to a witch without it attacking me before so I had no idea what to expect. Amidst my chaotic thoughts one thought in particular made me question my sanity in my final moments, I found her kind of cute.
"What the fuck am I thinking !?" I mentally screamed.
Suddenly the witch began to slowly inch closer as she seemed to inspect my wounds. I couldn't break my eyes away from her as at any moment that curious expression of hers could suddenly turn enraged at any moment.
"This witch definitely isn't normal." I thought.
Just as that thought crossed my mind her eyes suddenly shot up looking me dead in the eye as though she heard me making me stiffen up. She leant close to my face making me turn away as she then proceeded to sniff my neck. She was dangerously close to me, her body practically against mine as she continued to take in my scent. I never heard of a witch acting like this, usually they go crazy the moment the hear you or see you but this one is basically on top of me sniffing me like I'm some lavender incense or something. She finally pulled away and gave me some space but I was still on edge not knowing what to expect next from her. She didn't seem like she was going to hurt me...for now at least anyway so I decided to try fixing myself up while she watched.
"I just need to get something ok?"
I said as I carefully raised my hands to show her I meant no harm then slowly reached for my bag. I could tell she was watching my every move as though she was looking for any sign of hostility. I pulled out a small box with some bandages and other medical supplies and showed her what was inside to show there were no weapons. I then proceeded to fix myself up but was careful not to make any sudden moves. The entire time she just sat there watching me as though she was trying to learn what I was doing which was sort of amusing in its own way. I eventually ran out of bandages but I had enough to cover the worst of the wounds thankfully but now I was left with one more problem, her.
She sat the looking at me as though she was lost in thought she almost seemed bewildered by me although I could probably say the same for myself. She completely breaks the image I have of witches and doesn't even show the slightest intention of hurting me let alone killing me. Seeing as there didn't seem to be any immediate danger I began to take in the mysterious girl's features and imagined what she might have looked like before she turned. From what I could tell she had an amazing figure and a beautiful face, she was probably really popular when she was human.
"What sort of hell did you go through to end up like that...?" I asked.
I didn't want to imagine what she went through to end up as a witch although she's probably as far from a normal witch as you could get. Memories from before the outbreak began to come flooding back, memories of a more happy time where life was easy. I thought back to my family and friends and the life I had before this shit storm hit before I ended up all alone. I rested my head back against the wall as I closed my eyes and a single tear rolled down my cheek.
"How the hell did all this happen?" I asked myself
I suddenly felt something touch me so I looked down to see the witch leaning close with her hand resting on my leg. She got closer and closer until she was basically sat on my lap. I didn't know what she was doing but I was past caring if she was going to kill me then there wasn't much id be able to do to stop her but what she did instead shocked me. She gently wrapped her arms around my neck being careful of her razor sharp claws, pulled me close and spoke.
Witch: "N-no...C-cry it o-ok." She said quietly.
It was clear how hard it was for her to say those few words by how strained her words were. I was hesitant at first but I eventually returned the gesture and held her close. All fear of what she was or might do dissipated with those few words.
"Can you tell me your name?" I asked
Witch: "T-TayLor" she hoarsely responded.
"Thank you Taylor. Thank you so much."
Taylor was more than a just a mindless blood crazed witch and while she may have turned into one she was still, for the most part, human.
I feel like this was a decent start to the book, short and simple but let me know what you think.
