She looks in the mirror every day and wonders
"What is wrong with me?"
She screams "why? Why me!?"
She asks why she was chosen for this fate
What did they see in her that made them hate her so?
Every day is a constant battle
A war that never seems to end
Her blood stains her bathroom floor
Painting a picture of her pain and sorrow
Every day it's hard to wake up
Because all she wants to do is sleep
Because her dreams are better than the reality she lives in.
Her friends don't understand
That her fear comes from experience
That she can't control it
That the fear is another being living in her body, feeding off of the pain.
Happiness is her one wish.
Screams hide behind "I'm fine"
Cries echo off the walls of her mind as she sits and smiles
Surrounded by friends
But yet
So alone
Dying inside as she sings a tune of lies and smiles
The mirror shows the image of what she fears to be
Her mind is against her
Saying the hurtful words over
And over
And over
Again
Until she believes every word.
No one sees
No one notices
That she's dying inside with every passing day
As the smile feels more like a mask every time she tries
She tells her mom
"People have it worse"
She tells her dad
"It's just a teenager thing"
She tells her friends
"It's just the stress"
No one understands
The louder she screams
The less they seem to hear.
Every day seems to get darker and darker
As she repeats the song "sticks and stones"
But yet every word hurts
Her body is fine
But her mind is broken
Collapsed from the pressure
Of words that never seem to stop
She wants to die
But yet just can't.
She watches as everyone passes by
Leaving her behind
Until
She is what she fears
Alone
Once more
In a life that took one look
And decided that she must suffer
That decided that she must die
That she was the mistake that needed to be erased
She is alone
And she will forever be alone
As her screams grow dimmer
As her eyes grow heavier
As the weight of the pain lessens
As the voices finally fade into nothing but black
As she whispers
"I'm free"
