Looking Back

She smiled. Racheal couldn't remember the last time she could talk to someone as someone other than soopreme leader like that.

She and Numbuh 1 sat in the dining hall, chatting over meatball sandwiches

"I mean, they can all be really annoying, but, they can take things seriously... when they want to; and then it ends well... usually." he chuckled

She half-listened, mostly just enjoying the company

"Hoagie- er, Numbuh 2, he can lose focus, or priority, but he's good at what he does and he enjoys it."

"Numbuh 3" he chuckled, just a little "Her flaws are... hard to deny; but sometimes she makes me curious about her tactics."

Racheal pondered the thought for a moment. Most operatives didn't think much of Numbuh 3. Just the Peppy one. The flirt. The airhead. Just a third wheel (no pun intended).

"And Wally, Numbuh 4." he said "he can be hotheaded. And his not the smartest, but he certainly isn't just stupid. He's passionate... about thing and things."

She wasn't sure if she should nod or laugh. So she stayed still

"And Abby," she couldn't help note his odd tone. "You know, I always felt she has more potential than she's willing to admit. That's her weakness."

"Well," she finally replied "I guess the, uh, thing with Numbuh 11,"

"That was one thing;" Numbuh 1 said "that pretty much just pushed her further. It started with, oh you already know. With the delightful children."

"Oh, yeah."

Present

"Hello!" Numbuh 86 called, waking Racheal from her thoughts

"Oh, yeah, Fanny?"

"You got a week, y'know."

"I know."

"And if you don't pick a recommendation we'll need to play t-"

"Don't say the t word."

"Uh... okay. So, any nominees?"

"I already decided. Get me Sector V."

"You want what?" Numbuh 5 asked

"It's just a little favor." Numbuh 362 smiled, trying to sound as innocent as possible.

Numbuh 2 started to laugh. "I get it. This is a joke. Like, you're betting with someone, right?"

Both girls looked at him and he shut up.

"Come on, Numbuh 5, let's talk in private." Numbuh 362 invited

Numbuh 5 hesitantly followed, leaving her sectormates there

"That mean's we're dismissed, right?" Numbuh 2 asked

"You think she'll accept?" Numbuh 4 asked

"Nah, she barely accepted this position," Numbuh 2 said

"Or maybe she will because Numbuh 362  is real good at convincing people at stuff and it's a good opportunity and-" Numbuh 3 said, she stopped, seeing the two boys' expression

It was confused. Then laughter. "Yeah right." "As if"

They walked out of the office.

Numbuh 3 shrugged and skipped up to them
