The pain in her voice still rang in his ears throughout the entire drive to Pops. He could just imagine the tears streaming down her face along with the red puffiness under her eyes. It was a sight that Archie hated seeing most on Betty. It was 2 A.M when he got the call. He wasn't sleeping all that well anyway so it didn't bother him that much, hell nothing really bothered him when it came to Betty. It was surprising to him that she hadn't called Jug or Veronica but when Betty briefly told him what was going on, it became a lot easier to understand.
As Archie drove through the dim lit streets of Riverdale he could feel his knuckles becoming white as he tightened his grip against the steering wheel. He was already running late and he was determined to get to Betty as soon as he possibly could, even if that meant running several red lights on the way there, though a part of him wanted to turn around and head towards Jugs trailer and knock some sense into him. He knew both Jug and Betty had being arguing for several weeks now, Archie wasn't aware to what extent but that didn't matter to Archie. Just knowing Betty was in pain was enough to get Archie fuming. Neither of the couples seemed to be doing well ever since the reveal of the black hood. While Archie and Veronica had gotten back together, Archie's feelings for Betty still remained bubbling at the surface. There was constant arguing with Ronnie, Archie can't remember the last time they where in the same room together without at least one of them getting slightly annoyed at the other. It wasn't all sunshines and daisies for Jug and Betty either. Archie noticed just how irritated they where making each other at any given point in the day. It was always about the same things though. The serpents and Jughead keeping Betty in the dark claiming it was for her own good. But if Jug knew Betty by now, you could never keep her in the dark. The only time Archie can actually feel at peace nowadays is when he is with a certain blond. Whether that be walking to and from school, calling late at night or just simply hanging out in each others houses. It was a sense of comfort neither of them could seem to find in any body else. Betty just seemed to make things seem less complicated and less daunting. She added a sense of light to everything and it was one of the many things Archie loved about her.
The red head was taken from his thoughts by the bright glow of Pops neons sign beaming in through the windscreen. He slowly pulled into the empty car park, parking the car directly outside the window of there usual booth. He could see her figure through the winder, slouching with her face resting on her hands. She looked so worn down and broken and while Betty was strong, like anybody else she had her demons. The red head quickly got out of the car, shutting the door and running the minute his feet hit the ground. Archie leaped up the steps to Pops, quietly but quickly opening the door catching Pops attention, who didn't say a word he just gestured his head in the direction of Betty. He knew why Archie was here and it warmed his heart knowing how much the two life long friends cared for one another. Archie gave pops a small smile before turning his body in the direction of Betty.
She hadn't raised her head since he walked in the door, even from across the diner he could see her body trembling and slightly shivering. As if a natural instinct the red head quickly slid his Riverdale high hoodie off his shoulders, grasping it in his hand leaving him in a simple white V-neck. The red head slowly made his way over to the blond, being gentle with every step not wanting to cause any loud noises. As Archie got closer he could feel his heart hammering in his chest, his face had softened and his eyes developed a glossy layer. If there was one thing in this world that upset Archie more than anything it was seeing Betty hurt. Without hesitation, the second the red head reached the blond in her booth, he gently and slowly slid in next to her leaving very little space between them before he draped his hoodie over the blonds small shoulders. Archie could feel the pain radiating off Bettys body and it was as if her pain transmitted over to his body. He knew if he could that in an instant he would bare all her pain for her instead. He knew she probably didn't want to speak right now and so he respected that. His company was all she needed right now and Archie was going to make sure that he gave her exactly that.
It wasn't until over twenty minutes had passed since Archie had arrived at the diner that Betty turned her head to meet his gaze. Archie could feel his heart breaking as he came face to face with the heart broken beautiful girl in front of him. All he wanted to do was kiss her and hope that maybe just maybe that would take the pain away but he wasn't going to let his feelings for Betty interfere. The tears forming in her eyes seemed to be on a constant loop and just kept on producing. Her lip was trembling and her hands tightened there grip on Archies hoodie that hung over her shoulders causing her knuckles to go a vivid white. "Oh Betty." The red head stated as he threw his arm around her back pulling her body closer to his, allowing her to burry her head in the crook of his neck causing tears to fall on his chest while her right hand gripped his t-shirt. Archie slowly ran his hand up and down Bettys back, in hope that even the slightest remark would calm her down and put her at ease.
As time passed, Bettys breathing had slowly reduced to a fairly normal rate and there where no more tears falling from her eyes. Her body had slowly stabilised despite the occasional tremble. She could feel the warmth of her best friends body radiating onto her as her body leaned against his. It was beyond comforting to the blond knowing that he was here, Archie had always made Betty feel safe no matter where they where or what situation they where in.
Archie could still feel the slight shivers swarm over Bettys body every few minutes and every time he slowly pulled her body a little bit closer to his. This caused a small smile to form on Bettys lips every time he made this action. Only two words had being exchanged between the two of them since Archie had arrived at the diner and while most people would find the silence awkward or unsettling, it was comforting for Betty and Archie. Because they knew that they didn't need to speak when with each other to make it comfortable. There presence with each other was enough. The combination of oranges, purples and pinks filled the sky outside and Betty began to realise just how long she'd being here. She knew her parents where probably worried sick but she couldn't care less right now. She was with Archie and she felt safe and if she was being honest, she didn't want it to end. The blond was snapped from her thoughts by the sound of the red head next to her speaking. "I'm sorry I was late." He said in a soft voice which had evidence of slight crackling. Betty knew he hated letting her down or leaving her, it swarmed him with guilt every time. Betty scooted closer to Archies body, leaning her head further down his neck so that it was half resting on his chest and half on his shoulder with the top of head resting in the crook of his neck while one her hands rested on his muscular stomach and the other was intertwined with his. She couldn't remember when this happened but it felt natural. "You were right on time." Betty stated as she kept her gaze resting on there hands which where linked like a two chains. Betty didn't need to look at Archie to know he was smiling, They knew each other so well that by now they knew what made them smile and what wouldn't. Archie didn't respond with words he just sunk further down into the booth while keeping a grip on Bettys waist and the other on her hand while planting a soft kiss on the top of her head before leaning his head against hers. There eyes slowly began to flutter shut, leaving them to fall asleep in each others arms as the sun rose over the town of Riverdale.
