"Well it's just... I feel awkward sharing all of this to you. I just don't want to bother you with my problems, that's all." Lily quickly came up with an excuse. She didn't want to potentially anger the driver, after all she was currently in his car.

"Oh no, don't worry about me I love hearing about other's problems. It is just so interesting to think that billions of others have their own lives, their own issues to resolve, I love that little window into their souls. Please, do not be concerned about what I think." The driver waved his hand through the air, as if to dispel any previous notions.

Lily grew nervous, the man obviously not willing to let the issue slide. If she just remained silent the drive would grow awkward, as the man already allowed a segway into the next piece of conversation. She was entirely willing to allow the thought to stagnate in the air, but she still felt uneasy about the whole situation. Appeasing the man seemed like the proper course of action.

"Well, as I said before there are a few friends I can turn to. They have my back and I trust them, because I think that's what makes a good friend. Trust. And that's why this one hurt so bad, because she broke my trust and now I just don't know where I went wrong." Lily was hesitant at first, then spilled out the rest of what she had been thinking. It didn't matter that this man was a stranger, or made her feel slightly uneasy, because what did it really matter in the end. It felt good to release all of the emotion inside, and she was just glad she could do it without becoming emotional. It felt empowering.

"My my, I am so sorry that you have had such a breech of morals among your own friends. Getting stabbed in the back, or just losing something that truly mattered to you, it can really bring you down. I am glad you seem to be better after sharing." The man continued smiling, the same one he wore since she had gotten into the car. He seemed deeply satisfied that Lily had continued. "Now Lily, is there anything else eating at you?" He asked in a cheery tone.

Lily felt a haze appear over her mind. Had she ever told the man her name? The name she used to call the car was her mother's, as they shared an account, but she didn't recall ever introducing herself. "Um I think it's fine if you just drop me off around here, I think we're really close and I feel like walking a bit." Lily said hesitantly, trying not to let her voice betray her aversion to the ride as she reached to check her phone.

"Oh no no no, do not worry about it I'm quite sure we are close. I know how badly you want to see your friends and it would be a shame to disappoint them." The driver continued smiling, but to Lily that carefree smile now seemed devilish in the dark car.

Lily pulled the phone out, the screen ominously blinking on in the dim interior of the car. The three numbers on the screen leered out at her, dropping her heart into an abyss. The time hadn't changed since she had left the house. They must have been driving for fifteen minutes, but not one change could be seen on the screen. Lily felt cold sweat drip down her back, fear building with every second that didn't pass. "I-I really should be going. I think I'm getting carsick." Lily mumbled, unable to bring herself to look at the driver's grim smile.

"Lily, come now, we've only been driving for a short time! Getting carsick this easily I have to wonder if you can drive at all." The man laughed, the sing song tone now seeming horrific, the feeling which it gave now replaced with a stomach lurching cadence.

Lily dialed 911, thinking of anything to get her out of the car, only to get a dial tone. She peered out the window, searching the seemingly innocuous landscape for anything, anyone she could signal to. While searching, she came to another dread inducing realization: they had not passed any cars since they began moving. The light still didn't penetrate the windows, the sun now seemed impossibly distant, a warmth Lily ached for but could never reach. The highway they drove on and the land surrounding it seemed to move on repeat, the same trees and rocks and turns over and over, like they were in a film.

She grabbed at the door handle, pulling hard on it in a desperate attempt at escape, only to confirm what she already knew was true. There was no way out of the car, and she could only remain at the driver's mercy on this dreadful ride.
