A/N So, I ended up deleting everything in this chapter because I didn't really like how it turned out, and school's done for the summer so I don't have much of a life. I did, although, keep the title because I'm not that ambitious (had to google how to spell that). So, I am really really sorry if it's confusing. But basically, different chapter, same title, because I'm kinda lazy. Ohh but I do hope you all do like it! :)
Chapter Two: The Four of Us and Our Dates
“This isn’t like the movies,” Ashely said as we all sat awkwardly in the limousine. It was loud a minute ago, with our parents pestering us for pictures and reminding us of curfew. But now, it was silent. The only sound came from Ryan, the limo driver, as he cursed about the driving abilities of the minivan next to us. Jackson, Ashely’s date, had his arm around Ashley. They had apparently started dating a few days before Prom, and now his arm was basically glued to her shoulder.
Ellen was the one who asked Jackson for Ashley, and Ashley was hesitant at first. You could say that Jackson was rough around the edges, with his short stature and even shorter neck. His hands were meaty and he was extremely loud and annoying. You may wonder why on earth we would pick him for our Ashely. Well, we have no idea either; he was available.
“We’re all just awkward,” Ellen said, as we all nodded in agreement. Daniel, Ellen’s date, was sitting next to her, as he too nodded his head.
Ellen was the first of the four of us to get a date. She called me one Sunday night to tell me about the good news and basically ruptured my eardrum. Daniel is a year younger than us, with dark hair and olive skin. He usually wears glasses, but today he didn’t.
“Then let’s all introduce ourselves,” Katie suggested. Katie was the only one in the group to have her hair up, it was French braided into a bun on the side of her head. Her dress was a faded light green with a heart shaped neck line. Charlie was sitting next to her and they both looked equally uncomfortable.
I was the one who had to ask Charlie for Katie. It was an awkward encounter in study hall, where I realized 2/3rd’s through the semester that Charlie Fitzgerald was in my study hall. He was perfect for Katie, they both had the same one expression face, dark hair, and both were extremely quiet. I popped the question after I popped up on him sitting in his desk in the front of the classroom. He said yes, I think more so out of fear than agreement.
We all nodded in agreement to Katie’s suggestion as the limo fell silent once more as we all looked at one another for someone to start.
“I guess I’ll go first,” Charlie said, “I’m Charlie, and I’m awkward”
“Hi, Charlie,” I said, expecting it to be unison, but was thoroughly disappointed and embarrassed when it wasn’t. Everyone laughed, so it broke the ice a little bit. I looked over to my date, Dillon, as he chuckled a little bit which brought a smile to my face.
Ashley and Ellen asked Dillon for me. It was eleven o’clock on a Sunday night when they called with the exciting news, saying that Dillon wanted to talk with me the next day during Stats class. It was an awkward encounter that took place in front of the guy filled classroom of our statistics class, that ultimately resulted in both of us having a date to Prom, each other.
“I guess I’ll go next,” Jackson said, after the laughter died down, “I’m Jackson and I like the Packers and this girl,” Jackson squeezed Ashely’s arm as she giggled in response. Ellen and I both exchanged looks of annoyance. He just compared our friend to football.
“I’m Ashley,” Ashley said turning to Jackson, “And I like this boy,” she said leaning into him. Ellen and I both let out an involuntary sigh. It would be a long night if Ashley and Jackson were in couple mode the entire night.
