Alex saw a bench across the street from where he was standing. The question on how long it would take Aiden to get here did come across his mind but he decided to sit at the bench and be patient. Not even five minutes later he sensed a high spirited aura walking towards him and looked up to see none other than Aiden. His hair was deep red and slightly curled. He wore the same navy blue glasses with cheeks covered in freckles, his dark attire consisted with a scarf, jacket, ripped black jeans and sneakers. Aiden smiled at Alex. He smiled back and stood up.
Alex's heart began to flutter at the sight before him. "Hey." Alex muttered. Aiden stared at Alex and smiled. "Hello." The moment was silent and Alex felt awkward. Aiden's face soon turned into a frown. "Alex... Can I be honest with you?" Alex nodded awkwardly. "The reason I didn't text you was because I think I'm in love with you." His heart stopped. "I was scared because I never had feelings for another boy and the idea of falling in love first sight is such a cliche thing." 'I-in love?!' Alex's head was spinning as Aiden spoke. How was he supposed to react? Alex felt the same but it was obvious Aiden wasn't okay with having feelings for the same sex. "I don't understand." The words escaped his mouth. Aiden looked at Alex in surprise. "How can someone love the same gender? I mean.. it isn't right" The light in Aiden's eyes died as Alex continued. "Sorry Aiden. I don't feel the same and I don't think we should be friends if that's how you feel... it's... creepy." Alex looked back at Aiden. Tears seeping down his flushed cheeks, staining his glasses. "I feared that's what you would say. I didn't want to hear it but I did." Aiden stared right into Alex's eyes. "Alex I love you. I do. I understand you don't love me." His voice croaked. "I think we shouldn't be friends either. I don't need someone in my life who thinks my expression is weird. Myself is enough." Just like that, he walked off. Without looking back he left Alex at the bench. Alex didn't know what to do. He just broke himself and the person he loved. Why? He doesn't know. He looked at his phone and slowly typed out 'I love you too' in his chat with Aiden. Alex started crying. He shut off his phone and threw it into the snow. The scene replayed in his head over and over as his eyes became waterfalls. He picked his phone back up and saw the smashed screen. He cursed under his breath and went home. His mind was screaming telling him he loved Aiden but he didn't have the courage to speak to him again. From there his days went slow and uneventful. It felt as if his life was over. Home, then work, bookstore then repeat. Months later Aiden started showing up at the bookshop, with other person. Alex feared it was a love interest and well... he wasn't wrong. In a matter of days, he watched his love fall for someone else.
