THE uncomfortable humid air clung to my damp skin as I moved one leg after another, getting closer to my house each second. The street was quiet as it always was, only few cars passing by or a few people checking their mail boxes. The birds flew peacefully through the sky. It seemed like a nice and peaceful neighborhood; everyone was nice and loving, always looking out for each other.

My feet started to throb as I walked more and more against the concrete. I had walked at least four blocks by now, my school completely out of sight once I looked back.

It was finally the end of my freshman year. The day where everyone signs each others yearbook, maybe even slipping in their phone number. Everyone wished their friends goodbye or 'see you next year!', even though they'd probably never talk or look at each other again. My year ended the same way like usual: Go to school, end up late to class, meet up with my two best friends, and not give a shit about anything else.

By the next few more minutes, my light brown house came into view. My mom's black car parked in the driveway. I weaved my hand through my hair, letting out a deep sigh, then fishing out my keys from my back pocket. Once I reached the white painted door, I inserted the key into the keyhole and turned it, opening the door. With a push of my hand, I closed it back after I walked in.

The smell of scented candles filled my nose immediately. The house was different. Most times it was slightly messy, but now it was clean. Not even a speck of dust.

"Ivy, is that you?", My mom's voice called out.

"Yeah, it's me"

I slowly walked into the living room, seeing my mom sitting down on the couch. Her hands were folded in her lap. She sent me a warm smile, patting the seat next to her, signaling me to sit down. I sent her an inquisitive look, taking my back pack off of my shoulders and placing it on the couch.

"Something wrong?", I asked as I sat down on the couch.

She shook her head and lightly smiled.

"I just want to talk to you about something...", My mom trailed off.

"Again? Is it about the girl I pun-"

My mom let out a nervous laugh, "No, no, it's not that".

"Then what is it?", I furred my eyebrows in confusion.

My mom grabbed my hand, "Listen, I know you and Tony have never gotten along and I just want what's best for our family-"
