Today was the day that Steve and Danny were bringing their kids fishing! Danny's daughter Grace who is 14 and Steve's son Sean who is 15. They get along great! Like brother and sister! But lately Sean has been having some weird feelings towards Grace. Looking at her as if she was more than a friend to him. He was hoping this fishing trip would be a good time for them to talk and maybe feel things out, if Steve and Danny didn't get in the way that is.
Steve drives the boat out to a spot he remembered from when he was a kid, it was right by an island.
They all cast out their lines and sat and waited for a few minutes.
"Dad, this is boring." Sean said.
"It's only been a few minutes. You have to be patient." Steve replied.
"Well I don't feel like being patient, you do it." Sean said as he stood up.
"Yeah Danno I'm bored to." Grace said.
"Grace, you wanna go swim to the island?" Sean asked.
"Sure! Danno can I go?" She asked.
"Fine." He replied.
"Cool, come on!" Sean said as he pulled off his shirt.
Grace removed her shirt and shorts and together they both jumped over the boat and started to swim to the island.
"Careful Monkey! Don't go to far!" Danny shouted.
"Danny relax, she's with Sean." Steve said.
"That's why I'm worried."Danny replied.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Steve asked.
"It means your his father and if your his father then he has to be at least half as crazy as you!" Danny replied.
Steve chuckled.
"Is this funny to you." Danny asked.
"Danny they're kids you need to relax. And plus Sean knows his way, they'll be fine!" Steve stated.
On the island:
Sean and Grace made it to the island and Sean suggested they explore through the jungle.
"We won't get lost in here, will we?" Grace asked.
"No don't worry I've been here before." He answered.
"Ok!"she replied.
"So how are you liking high school so far?" He asked.
"It's cool! Alittle harder but more fun!" She replied.
"It'll get easier. So any upper class men try to hit on you yet?"He asked.
"A couple, but neither of them were cute." She replied.
"Well if anyone ever messes with you just come find me!" He said.
She chuckled, "Okay, thanks!"
"I like your bathing suit!" He stated.
"Oh! Thanks, it's new!" She replied.
"Nice!" He said.
"So where are we going?" She asked.
"There's this super cool tree right up here!"he replied.
They approached the tree.
"This is it!" He stated point up at the tree.
"Woah!" She said.
"I know right." He said.
The tree was super tall with plants growing off of it and a chunk of the center carved out like a door!
"How did you find this?!" She asked.
"Me and my dad just found it one time we came here." He replied.
"It's beautiful! I wish I had my phone to take pictures!" She said!
"Yeah but a memory is more valuable than a picture." He stated.
" Getting a little deep there Sean..." she chuckled.
"Sorry, just something I heard on tv." He chuckled back.
"I've never seen anything so beautiful!" She said as she looked upon the tree.
"I have." He said as he took a step closer to her.
Grace glanced at Sean, and moments later Sean leaned in for a kiss. Grace didn't try to stop it but it just didn't seem right, so she slowly pulled back.
It was silent for a few moments, before Grace started to make her way back to the boat.
"Grace! I'm sorry." He said as he followed behind her.
She didn't reply and continued walking.
All Sean could think was 'Great! Way to screw up a great friendship!'
Grace entered the water and they both began their swim back to the boat.
Meanwhile, Danny was in the process of reeling in a fish! He reeled up a ginormous fish as Steve grabbed his phone to take a picture!
"It's a tuna fish buddy!" He exclaimed.
"Just take the picture!" Danny said.
"I am, I took a bunch!" Steve replied.
"Hey gracie! Look at what's for dinner!" Danny said as he held the fish up for Grace, who was just re-entering the boat.
"Good job Danno!" She said.
"What's wrong? You okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, just tired from the swim." She replied as she wrapped herself in a towel.
Moments later Sean re-entered the boat as well.
"Nice fish Danno!" He stated.
"Thanks!" He replied.
Sean grabbed his towel as well and went to the front of the boat, he wanted to talk to Grace but he could tell she didn't want him anywhere near her right now.
Steve and Danny noticed the awkwardness between the teenagers and both glanced up at each other.
"Are we missing something Danno?" Steve asked.
"Seems like it, right?" Danno replied.
"We're just hungry guys." Sean stated.
"Hey Monkey, you Okay?" He asked as he sat by Grace.
"Yeah I'm just bummed I didn't have my phone to take pictures of this cool tree Sean showed me..." she replied.
"Well this isn't the last time we're coming out here, you'll get another chance to get a picture next time!" He said.
"Okay." She mumbled.
Steve and Danny packed up the fishing things and started the boat back towards shore.
They parked the boat at the dock, and all loaded up into Danny's Camaro. Danny was dropping off Steve and Sean first and then heading home. He pulled up to Steve's and let them out.
"Thanks Danno!" Steve said as he pulled the seat forward letting out Sean!
"Yeah! I'll let you know how my fish tastes!" He bragged.
"Yeah, Okay!" Steve chuckled.
Once Sean got out of the car, he immediately started walking to the house.
"Sean! Aren't you going to say bye?"Steve asked.
Sean paused and turned around saying, "bye." Before continuing to head inside.
"See ya Danno!" Steve said as he to made his way inside."
Steve walked through the front door right as Sean was walking out of the kitchen with a snack.
"I'm taking a shower, so don't use any hot water." Sean said as he started up the stairs.
Sean took a quick shower and then went down to the couch and flipped on the tv. Steve came out of the kitchen when he heard Sean come down.
"What sounds good for dinner?" Steve asked.
"Danny's fish." He replied.
"Yeah, that was a nice one!" Steve said.
"Dad, I got a question?" Sean said.
"Okay, go ahead." Steve said as he took a seat on the recliner beside the couch.
"How did you know when you were falling in love with mom?"He asked.
"I just got that feeling, and I'm pretty sure she got it to!" Steve replied.
"Well what would you have done if mom said she didn't like you back?" He asked.
"I'd respect her decision." He answered
Sean was silent as he sat in thought.
"What's up bud? Why these serious questions?" Steve asked.
"Well I kinda did something I regret." He said.
"Like what?" Steve asked.
"Let's just say I like this person and they found out, but I don't think they like me back." He explained.
"No better way to find out then to ask." Steve stated.
"That's the thing! I can't ask! I'm afraid now that they know, it's gonna ruin our whole friendship!" He replied.
"This is Why you and Grace were acting weird on the boat isn't it?" Steve asked.
"Outstanding detective work." He chuckled.
"So what do you like one of her friends or something?"Steve asked.
"No." He mumbled.
"Then tell me." Steve said.
"When I was showing Grace the tree, I kinda got caught up in the moment and . . . Kissed her." He replied.
"What?! How stupid are you!" Steve shouted.
"I'm sorry! I was gonna talk to Her about it but then I showed her the tree and she looked so beautiful in her bikini . . ."He explained before getting interrupted.
"I'm going to stop you right there." Steve said as he stood from the recliner.
"I didn't mean to dad I swear!" Sean stated.
"Danny and Grace are family Sean, you can't do that." Steve said.
"I know." He said
"What did Grace say?" Steve asked.
"Nothing. She just walked away."Sean replied.
"Well your like family, she probably wasn't sure what to do." Steve explained.
"I'm sorry dad, my emotions got the best of me." Sean said.
"Don't apologize to me, just wait til Danny finds out." Steve said.
"Your not gonna tell him are you?" Sean asked.
"No but I'm sure he'll find out eventually." Steve answered as he walked back into the kitchen.
Sean groaned and threw the tv remote. 'Great!' He thought.
It was the next morning. Sean was downstairs getting breakfast in nothing but boxer briefs and an open flannel, and Steve was just heading downstairs to make coffee.
A few minutes later Danny walked into the kitchen:
"I'm gonna kill him." He said.
"Woah, woah, woah. Kill who?" Steve asked.
"Do you not own clothing?" Danny asked pointing towards Sean.
"Yeah?" Sean said.
"Then why don't you put some on?" Danny asked.
"I'm in my house, why do I need clothes?" Sean chuckled.
"Hey! Who are you gonna kill?" Steve asked.
"Something is going on with our phones and I keep getting all of grace's text messages. Some punk keeps texting her." He explained.
"Who?" Sean asked.
Steve and Danny both turned their attention to Sean.
"What? Just being protective..." he said.
"Well what are they talking about?" Steve asked.
"He asked her what her favorite candy was and he called her 'G'. First of all her names Grace." Danny stated.
"Danny, they're teenagers talking about chocolate a week before Valentine's Day. Love is in the air."
"Tell me about it." Sean said.
"What you got your eyes on a girl?" Danny asked.
Sean shot Steve a weird look before replying, "uh kinda but I don't think it's gonna work out."
"Too bad."
"Are you gonna see Amber?" Sean asked as he hopped onto the kitchen counter.
"Okay, can you please close your legs?" Danny asked.
"Danny chill! It's not like my nuts are hanging out!"Sean replied.
"Hey, come on! Just get down, Danno isn't used to half naked boys running around his house, at least not while he's home." Steve chuckled.
"That's not funny!" Danny said.
"It was a joke." Steve said.
"Are you ready?" Danny asked.
"Yeah I just need to get dressed." Sean said as he hopped off the counter.
"I was asking Steve." Danny said.
"Sean is coming in with us today." Steve said.
"Yeah we have the day off, didn't Grace tell you?" Sean asked.
"No she's at Rachel's the rest of the week." Danny replied.
"Ok, well I'm just gonna get dressed real quick." Sean said as he started out the kitchen.
"Yes, please! Put some clothes on!" Danny shouted.
Steve chuckled as he rinsed his coffee cup.
"Why is everything so funny?" Danny chuckled.
"Cause Danny, one day when Charlie grows up, your gonna have a half naked teenager walking around in your house to." Steve explained.
"Let's hope not." Danny said as he left the kitchen and Steve followed.
Sean came back downstairs wearing a black bro tank, camo cargo shorts, and flip flops.
"Better Danno?"Sean asked.
"Very! Let's go!" Danny said as he gestured toward the front door.
When they arrived, Steve instructed Sean to go wait in his office.
Minutes later Steve entered his office:
"Hey we got a case so I have to go, You good staying here?" Steve asked.
"I was actually wondering if I could go skim boarding with Blake? Just at the beach across the street." Sean explained.
"That's fine, but if I call you better pick up!" Steve said.
"Deal!" Sean said.
"Okay. I'll call you later!"Steve said as he exited the office.
Sean texted his friend Blake and said, 'He said yes! Meet me there in 10!'
Alittle later they met at the beach and started boarding.
It was the afternoon and Steve was still working the case and hadn't called to check in on Sean yet. Meanwhile Sean and Blake were taking a break from boarding, when they were approached by two other boys. They knew these boys from school and they've had a beef with them for a while. Their names were Ben and Hunter.
"What are you guys doing on our beach?" Ben asked.
Both Sean and Blake stood.
"It's not your beach." Sean said.
"Actually it is! And who said you could board here?!" Ben asked.
"We can board here if we want. It's a public beach." Blake stated.
"Only the best boarders come here." Ben said.
"Then what are you doing here?" Sean asked.
"Well I'm the best." Ben stated.
Sean chuckled.
"What's so funny?" Hunter asked.
"It's just usually when someone says they're the best they can back it up, but I don't think there's a chance of you doing that." Sean stated.
"So are you challenging me?" Ben asked.
"Why? Do you wanna back out already?" Sean laughed.
"No!" Ben stated.
"Then let's go! Show me what the best boarder looks like." Sean said.
Ben and Hunter each took a run.
"Now you can take a run, or save yourself the embarrassment." Ben stated.
"Yeah, we'll see!" Sean said.
Sean started his run and was getting ready to jump on his board when out of nowhere he was tackled into the water by Ben. Both boys started going at it as Blake and Hunter stood by watching. Once Blake and Hunter saw the lifeguards they both split. The lifeguards separated Ben and Sean and watched them until HPD arrived, and started questioning them. Sean had bruised knuckles, and a small cut beside his eyebrow caused by something sharp in the water, and Ben had a bruised jaw from Sean's fist.
"So do one of you guys want to tell me what happen?" The officer asked.
Both boys were silent.
"Okay, well if neither of you want to talk then I'm going to have to take you both down to the station. Give me your names." The officer said.
"Ben Ames." Ben said.
"Sean McGarrett." Sean said.
The officer stopped and took a long look at Sean.
"McGarrett, as in Commander McGarrett?" The officer asked.
"Yup! That's my dad." Sean replied.
"Okay, I'll be right back." The officer said.
The officer went to talk to his superior and they both decided to let the boys go but to give Sean a special police escort back to Steve's office.
The officer walked back towards the boys.
"Okay boys. We're going to let you both off with a warning today, but if something like this happens again you'll be going up to the station." The officer explained.
"Thank you officer." Sean said.
"Wow even when he's not here your daddy still gets you out of trouble." Ben said.
Sean ignored him and watched as he got his cuffs off and walked away.
"Okay, let's go." The officer said as he grabbed Sean by the cuffs.
"Go where?" Sean asked.
"Chief wants me to hand deliver you to McGarrett." The officer replied.
"Really? Please don't! I swear I didn't even start the fight! I did nothing wrong?" Sean stated.
"Sorry kid, just doing my job." The officer said.
Sean groaned as he continued to walk with the officer.
Meanwhile the team was circled around the computer monitors still working on the case. Not much later the officer holding Sean walked in.
"Sorry for interrupting commander." The officer said as they approached them
"It's okay. What's going on?" Steve asked.
"Lifeguards had to break up a fight down at the beach between him and another boy. We let them both off with a warning but Chief wanted me to hand deliver him to you." The officer explained.
"Thanks. I appreciate it." Steve said.
"No problem sir."The officer said as he removed the cuffs from Sean.
"Thanks." Sean said.
"Stay out of trouble next time." The officer suggested.
"Got it." Sean chuckled.
"Here's his belongings." The officer said as he handed Steve the bag.
"Mahalo." Steve replied.
"Shoots." The officer said as he walked out.
"Really Sean?" Steve said.
"Dad I didn't do anything." Sean stated.
"You were fighting! You could've been arrested!" Steve stated.
"I didn't start it!" Sean stated.
"That doesn't matter!" Steve said.
"What!  so I'm just supposed to let someone kick my ass?!" Sean shouted.
"Go wait in my office." Steve said.
"Fine." Sean said as he went to Steve's office.
Steve turned back to the table and got looks from every member of the team.
"What?" Steve asked.
"Nothing." Kono said.
"Guys come on! He was fighting." Steve stated.
"But you don't know Why? Just take it easy on him right now, he did say he didn't start it. Maybe he's telling the truth." Grover suggested.
"So I'm just supposed to condone fighting." Steve asked.
"No just listen to his side of the story." Grover said.
"And You don't have to condone fighting to condone self defense." Chin stated.
"I guess." Steve said.
"How about the fact that he's shirtless again?" Danny asked.
"Danny drop it." Steve said.
"What?" Kono chuckled.
"That kid is always shirtless and I went over there this morning and he had no pants on, nada." Danny stated.
"So?" Grover asked.
"I mean normal people wear clothes." Danny stated.
"When I was his age I rarely had a shirt on either. I mean it's hot all the time and your always getting in the water, so what's the point of a shirt if you don't need one?" Chin stated.
"The point is to wear it so you aren't constantly half naked." Danny stated.
"Babe, shut up." Steve said.
"Hey Boss! Go talk to him, we'll finish this up." Kono said.
"Thanks Kono!" Steve said.
Steve entered his office and sat in the chair across from Sean who was sitting on the couch.
"Give me the story." Steve said.
"It was just this kid Ben. We've had beef with them for awhile." Sean said.
"You said 'we'?" Steve asked.
"Yeah. Blake was with me and Ben's friend Hunter but once they saw the cops they dipped." Sean explained.
"Okay So what happened before the fight started?" Steve asked.
"Me and Blake were taking a break from boarding when they came up to us and just started talking crap. They called it their beach and they wanted us to leave cause only the best boarders get to board there. And in their eyes, they're the best." Sean explained.
"Okay So what started the fight?"Steve asked.
"they challenged us to see who the better boarders were. When it was my turn, I got ready to jump onto my board and out of nowhere Ben tackles me into the water and then we just started fighting." Sean stated.
"Okay So Ben started it?" Steve asked.
"Yes! I might've finished it but I didn't start it." Sean said.
Steve laughed as he stood from the chair and approached Sean.
"So when did you get this?" Steve asked as he examined the cut beside Sean's eyebrow.
"I think I got it when he tackled me into the water." Sean replied.
"Okay, anything else?" Steve asked.
"Just some bruised knuckles, I'll be fine." Sean stated.
Steve walked over to his desk, opened a drawer and pulled out a white T-shirt, " You can wear this til we go home." Steve said as he tossed it to Sean.
"Okay." Sean said. "Can I get my phone." He asked as he put on the shirt.
"No." Steve said.
"Why? You know I didn't do anything." Sean said.
"That doesn't matter Sean, as soon as you knew there was going to be a problem you should've walked away! You almost got in a lot of trouble today." Steve explained.
"Okay then how long!"Sean asked.
"A week." Steve replied as he exited the office.
"A week?! Dad my whole life is on there!" Sean stated as he followed his dad out of the office.
"That's not my problem." Steve stated.
Sean groaned and headed towards the bathroom. Right as he was exiting the room Grace walked in.
"Hey Monkey!" Danny shouted as he approached her.
"Hey Danno! Hey Sean!" She said.
Sean just nodded his head.
"What happen to your eye?"she asked.
"Fight." Sean mumbled.
"Oh." She said.
"Yeah I gotta go." He said as walked off.
"Come say hi to everyone!" Danny said as he led her to the team.
"Hey guys!" Grace greeted.
"Hey Gracie!" Steve said as he approached her and gave her a hug.
"So why aren't you with your mom?" Danny asked.
"She had to run some errands with Charlie so I told her I wanted to come hang out here." She explained.
"Ok. We're working this case right now, will you be okay just hanging out in my office?" Danny asked.
"Sure." She answered.
"Sean will be here to." Steve said.
"What happened to his eye? He said he got into a fight?" She asked.
"Yeah He did." He said.
"With who?" She asked.
"Some boys down at the beach. I guess he's had a problem with them for awhile." Steve replied.
"Oh." She said.
"I'm sure he'd like your company though, he was pretty upset about it." Steve said.
"Ok, I'll go find him!" She said as she walked off.
Grace walked around for a bit trying to find him until she spotted him walking out of the bathroom.
"Hey Sean!" She shouted as she walked towards him.
"Oh, hey." He said.
"So Your dad told me about your fight, was it Ben and Hunter?" She asked.
"Yeah." He replied.
"I'll talk to Hunter tomorrow." She said.
"It's no biggie, I handled it!" He stated.
"Well it's a big deal to me!" Grace said.
"When are you going to tell Danno?" Sean asked.
"Probably never." She said.
"He's going to find out your dating Hunter sooner or later." He stated.
"I know, I'd just rather it be later." She said.
"Whatever." He mumbled as he started to walk off.
"Hey are you Okay?" She asked as she caught up with him.
"Yeah don't worry you didn't hurt my feelings." He said.
"I don't mean about yesterday, your eye is bleeding really bad." She said.
"Again?! I just cleaned it!" He stated.
"I think you need stitches." She suggested.
"I'll be fine." He said as he rubbed the blood off on his shirt.
"Ok." She replied as they started their way back up to the office.
"Can I ask you something without you getting super defensive?" Grace asked.
"Sure." He said.
"Why did you do it?" She asked.
Sean scoffed.
"Sean, I'm being serious." She said.
"No reason Okay. I thought I was feeling something but I guess I was wrong." He replied.
"Sean you were feeling something, but it's not what you think you were feeling." She said.
"What?" He said.
"Just because two people are close and have strong feelings towards each other doesn't mean they are romantic feelings. I love you like a brother and I'm sorry if I did anything to make you get the wrong idea!" She explained.
"You didn't do anything, I was being dumb. Im sorry for putting you in that awkward situation." He replied.
"It's okay. Let's just pretend it never happened, and please don't tell hunter!" She asked.
"I wouldn't dream of it." He replied.
"Good!" She chuckled.
They both re-entered the office together.
"I see you found him." Steve said.
"Yup!" Grace chuckled.
As they got closer, Steve noticed the blood on Sean's shirt.
"Woah! I let you wear my shirt for 5 minutes and you already got blood stains on it?!" Steve said.
"You shouldn't have given him a white shirt!" Danny said.
"Your always the one telling him to put on a shirt, so would you've rather him been walking around without one?" Steve asked.
"No, bloody white shirt is fine." Danny replied.
"I thought you were going to clean up your eye?" Steve asked.
" I did, but then it just started bleeding again. Grace thinks I need stitches." Sean explained.
Steve re-examined Sean's cut.
"This isn't anything a little super glue won't fix." He said.
"Your funny." Sean stated.
"Well what else would you recommend?" Steve asked.
"Don't you just have one of those little butterfly stitches?" Sean asked.
"Yeah I guess that'd work to. Bottom drawer in my desk is a first aid kit, should be one in there." Steve said.
"K." Sean said as he went to Steve's office.
Sean took out the first aid kit, took out the butterfly stitch, and then put it away as Grace walked in.
"You need help with that?" She asked.
"No." He replied.
He went to apply the stitch and realized it was much more difficult than he thought since he couldn't locate the cut. He glanced over at Grace.
"Need help?" She asked.
"Yeah." He chuckled.
"Okay, come sit." She said as she gestured for him to hand her the stitch.
Sean handed her the stitch and sat down on the couch.
"Well first we need to wipe off some of this blood so it can actually stick to you." She said as she reached towards Steve's desk and grabbed a tissue.
"Hold this." Grace said as she handed the bloody tissue to Sean.
"Tilt your head back a little." She said.
Grace slowly applied the stitch, then making sure to softly rub it into place.
"All good to go." She said stepping back from him.
"Thanks." He replied.
"No problem." She replied. Just as her phone buzzed.
"Who's That?" Sean asked.
"Hunter." She said.
"What does he want?" He asked.
"Well I wanted to know about the fight, so I texted him. But he's saying he's only going to talk to me in person." She explained.
"To bad. Tell him no." He said.
"He said he's outside." She said.
"So what are you going to go talk to him?" He asked.
"Danno's here. He's not going to let me leave the building alone, and if he found out I was meeting a boy, he'd freak out!" She said.
"So what then?" He asked.
"Can you help me?" She asked.
"How am I supposed to help you." He asked.
"Come with me! If we're together it'll be less suspicious." She replied.
"And what are we going to tell them?" He asked.
"Just tell them we're going to get some fresh air." She said.
"Why should I help with this? Hunter is a dick! He's lucky I didn't kick his ass to!" Sean stated.
"Cause you wouldn't be helping Hunter, you'd be helping me! And Hunter really isn't that bad, he just acts that way around Ben." She explained.
"Sure...." He mumbled.
"Come on, please!" She begged.
"Okay, fine!" He said.
"Thank you!" She said.
"Whatever, let's just go." He said as he stood from the couch and made his way out of Steve's office.
"Where you two headed?" Steve asked.
"Just going outside for some fresh air." Sean replied.
"Don't go far Grace." Danny said.
"I know Danno." She replied.
They made it outside, where they found hunter waiting by a tree in the parking lot.
"Hey G!" Hunter said.
"Hey!" She said as she leaned in to hug him.
"Sean." Hunter said.
"Hunter." Sean said.
"Okay, So talk to me about what happened earlier." Grace said.
"Does he have to be here." Hunter asked nodding towards Sean.
"Yes, it was the only way Danno would let me come outside. Now talk." She said.
"Babe I don't feel comfortable talking about this with him standing right there." Hunter said.
"Don't be a bitch, and tell her what happened. Even though I already did, so its not like it matters." Sean said.
"Really dude you wanna do this right now!" Hunter said.
"What are you gonna hit me, or run like you did earlier?" Sean said.
"Bro chill out! I'm not looking to fight you, just stop being a dick!" Hunter said.
"I'm the one being a dick? You and Ben tried to jump us earlier? Yeah that makes sense!" Sean laughed.
"I didn't do anything it was all Ben!" Hunter shouted.
"Right and I'm sure he came up with the idea all by himself?" Sean said.
"He did!" Hunter shouted.
"Sure." Sean said.
"I swear! He just told me we were going to the beach to board, and then he saw you guys there. I didn't know he was gonna start shit, until we walked up to you guys!" Hunter said.
"So what your just his puppet?" Sean asked.
"Look! My mom just wants me to be friends with him because he's having a hard time at home right now." Hunter explained.
"You've been friends since elementary school, don't pull that." Sean said.
"This is why I didn't want him here." Hunter said.
"Might as well tell him, maybe it'll make things easier?" Grace suggested as she grabbed a hold of Hunter's hand.
"I'm confused." Sean said.
"Your right. Me and Ben have been friends for long, but don't you remember in middle school when I started hanging with Taylor's group?" Hunter asked.
"Yeah." Sean said.
"Well Ben wasn't apart of that group. Actually I didn't really see him much of middle school. We just drifted apart. The summer before freshman year, his parents told him they were getting a divorce. He got so upset about it that his mom contacted my mom, and asked if I'd reach out to him again. So I did! That is the only reason I'm friends with him again. And you can believe it or not but it's the truth." Hunter explained.
"So that makes sense why he's such a dick. But what's your excuse." Sean asked.
"Look, I just tag along okay. I never participate in the trouble he gets into." Hunter said.
"Why don't you ever tell him to stop?" Sean asked.
"I'm not his mom. I told him that I wasn't going to be getting into fights for him and he understood. But I can't control what he does." Hunter said.
"Makes sense." Sean said.
"I can't leave him either. He's just going through way to much, He'd fall apart without me." Hunter said.
"Well that's cool! Your a good friend." Sean said.
"Thanks. So we good?" Hunter asked.
"Yeah we're good." Sean asked as he held out his fist for a fist bump.
Hunter gave Sean the fist bump and replied, "Good! I don't need your beef with Ben to get in the way of our relationship. Especially since I'm dating Grace." Hunter said.
"Good point." Sean said.
Back inside, the team had just got a new lead, so Steve and Danny were going to check it out.
As soon as Steve exited the building, and started toward the car, he saw Grace, Sean, and another boy he didn't recognize. However, he did recognize that the boy was holding Grace's hand.
As Steve approached the car, "Danno!" Steve said.
"What?" Danny asked as he too approached the car.
"I think I know who the kid texting Grace is?" Steve said.
"Who?" Danny asked.
Steve just nodded toward the group of kids.
Danny turned around, and noticed the kids, and in particular noticed the boy Grace was holding hands with.
"Grace!" Danny shouted as he started walking towards the group.
Steve followed because he knows how Danny can get.
"Crap! Hunter you need to leave now!" Grace mumbled as she pulled her hand away from his.
"Why? Shouldn't I meet him?" Hunter asked.
"Not right now! Now go!" She mumbled again.
"Okay." He said as he started to run away.
"Hey!" Danny shouted as he approached the kids.
"What's up Danny?" Sean asked.
"Who was that?" Danny asked.
"Who was Who?" Sean asked.
"The kid who just ran off." Steve said as he pointed in the direction the kid ran.
"Oh, that was just a friend from school." Sean answered.
"You friend's with him to Grace?" Danny asked.
"Yeah, he's a nice kid." She said.
"Why'd he take off so quick?" Danny asked as he eyed Grace.
Grace was silent as she continued to stare at the ground.
"He had to get home for dinner." Sean answered.
There was a large moment of silence.
"Why don't you two head back inside, we just got a lead so we're about to leave." Steve suggested.
"Sounds good. Come on Grace." Sean said as he started walking towards the palace.
"Okay. Bye Danno." She said as she caught up with Sean.
"She knew who that kid was." Danny said.
"100%." Steve said.
"Do you think it was her boyfriend?" Danny asked as they started back towards the car.
"I mean 14 year olds girls usually only hold hands with their boyfriend." Steve said.
"She's not even allowed to have a boyfriend." Danny said.
"Danno, she's 14." Steve said.
"Doesn't Matter. I'm her father, I make the rules." Danny said.
"She won't stay young forever Danno." Steve said.
"I know . . . Let's just go, I need something to take my mind off of this." Danny said as he got into the car.
Then they both left.
Now in Steve's office:
"That was terrible!" Grace said.
"It might've been more believable if you weren't scared shitless." Sean chuckled.
"It's not funny! I didn't know what to say! Do you think he know's!" She asked.
"I'd be surprised if he didn't." Sean said.
Grace groaned.
"It can't be that bad." Sean said.
"Clearly you don't know Danno." Grace said.
"Worst things worst, you just tell him. It's not like there's anything he can do about it, you guys have already been dating for like 3 months." Sean said.
"I guess." She mumbled.
"It'll be good." He said.
"Let's hope. For Hunter's sake." She said.
"For real." Sean said.
