Chapter 6

"Aubrey," Astra sighed, "There's nothing that we can do about them, anyway."

The four girls were sitting in their dormitory, which was decked out in Slytherin colours. The curtains were green and silver, the walls had green and silver wallpaper, and the girls had added their own personal touch to the room by putting moving photographs of their favourite memories on the walls. Setting the room up and unpacking took a while, especially since each year they had to unpack and repack.

However, Astra usually didn't mind it, seeing as it just meant that she could stay up later with her friends.

"Well, there should be," Aubrey grumbled, "They're dangerous! As you told us, they made you faint, Astra, shouldn't that be proof enough that they're unsuitable to even be around school grounds?"

"Like Astra already said," Clarissa interjected, before Astra could speak, "No matter how dangerous they are, there's absolutely nothing we can do about it. And we'll just have to deal with it. We're just a bunch of Third Years, anyway. It's not like we have much of a say around here."

"Don't sound so bitter," Astra said with a little playful slap on her friend's arm, "At least since we're only Third Years we can still get away with stuff that the Seventh Years can't."

"Yeah? Like what? It's not like you've ever gotten into trouble before." Aubrey scoffed. "But I bet Potter and his friends will still be allowed to get away with and be rewarded for breaking the rules even if they're Seventh Years."

"What with Harry Potter being the Chosen One and all," Elra agreed.

Astra bit her lip, "Guys, he's actually pretty nice. And also, he's my cousin."

"We never said he wasn't nice," Elra said defensively, "We're just saying, they always are allowed to break rules, whereas here we are getting yelled at for sneezing."

"That's a bit of an exaggeration," Clarissa noted, "But yes, I do agree that it's a bit unfair that they get rewarded for everything they do. Especially how in First Year, clearly we were winning the House Cup—and they got rewarded two hundred points in one go and overtook us within the span of a minute." She scoffed a little.

"Actually, it was one hundred and seventy," Elra said.

"Close enough," Clarissa muttered, and then continued, "Sure, Malfoy and his friends aren't all that good to the Gryffindors and they are pretty rude, even to us, but there's also a bunch of us who worked hard to get to the top, and to win!"

"Remember in First Year, how we all studied so hard, handed in all our homework early and tried to memorise everything the Professors said just so that Slytherin would win the House Cup?" Aubrey reminded them, "We were so certain that our effort had paid off...but no. Lions win in the end anyway." Her last statement had quite a bitter undertone, and understandably so, too.

"I know it's unfair," Astra said, "And to be honest, I was very upset at the time too. But nothing can change that now, and let's just think about what we're going to do to get the House Cup this year, alright?"

"Right," The other three girls said.

"Anyway," Aubrey said after a moment, "About the Dementors..."

"Aubrey, I thought we'd—,"

"No, Astra," Aubrey cut her off, "How are you going to stay safe? You might faint again if you get too close to them—,"

"Then I won't get close to them," Astra said.

Clarissa, Elra and Aubrey stared doubtfully at her for a long moment of silence.

Finally, Clarissa cleared her throat, "Well, Astra...that's going to be hard because they're stationed everywhere—and you can't just not go anywhere."

"I'll be fine," Astra reassured the girls, "I promise you."

But inside, Astra was growing increasingly worried about how she was going to manage to stay safe while in the castle.

Ironically, the Dementors were there to keep them safe—but Astra didn't feel secure at all when she was around them. She wondered if the person who'd stationed them there—probably a Ministry worker—felt safe around the Dementors.

Perhaps they're great friends with the Dementors, Astra thought to herself sarcastically, And they expect everybody else to be fine around them too.

To be honest, Astra felt less threatened by Sirius Black compared to the Dementors.

At least Sirius Black didn't suck out people's souls.

Or, at least, Astra hoped he didn't.

She knew that her parents had been best friends with Sirius when they were younger, but they rarely ever spoke of him.

Sirius Black's friendship with Ardelle and Remus was enough to make Astra question if the man; supposedly a mass-murderer, was truly guilty of all that he'd been accused of.

Astra suddenly felt increasingly worried for Leo Black—who was probably not only being picked on by his friends now that Sirius Black had escaped from Azkaban, but was probably worried about what his dad was trying to do.

Leo had always been picked on by everybody in the school for his father's reputation, but he hadn't ever let it get to him; at least, not from what Astra could see.

She hoped that he wouldn't let it get to him now.

"I'll be fine," Astra repeated, to herself more so than the other girls around her.
