"...viene! Raviene, wake up! Come on bro! You can't sleep like a damn cocoon forever! And I wanna show you something but you won't see if you don't wake up, Raviene!"

I rolled my eyes. Kana is sure the most dramatic shaman I've ever known. I don't wanna wake up but when she shakes me like this...

Ugh. Annoying.

"Don't touch me." I punched her arm away and sat up to rub at my face. I definitely don't like mornings...

"Goodafternoon to you! Don't you know what day it is?" Kana added excitedly.

"Oh. A sunny day? What do you want me to say if it is a sunny day today? Friggin jump in joy?" I said sarcastically while getting up and standing on the wooden floor.

Kana rolled her eyes. "Bruh. It's my birthday, Raviene... I should've known you were that poor in memory."

I went over to the small shelf made of wood where Mom placed my clothes neatly folded and all clean. In fact my whole being is clean and shiny just because I was adopted by Mom and Dad who happens to be our village's chiefs or what they call the head of the place. I'm happy with them, people respect them and also me, I have a normal life one would wish for... But somehow there's still something else I want to do other than waking up to this place and doing chores a proper lady like me should do.

"I do know it's your birthday, but if you were to ask me which one between a sunny day or celebrating you damn birthday I'd wanna do, I'd say stay under the sun until I tan then."

"Rude." Kana pouted. She didn't have a chance to say one more thing as I went in the shower and shut the door real hard the hinges almost broke.

"I'm waiting for my present from you!"

Whatever. Don't have money cuz am broke. And why would an eighteen year old girl like Kana want something such as a gift for her birthday? I'm younger than her by two years, fyi.

After taking a quick bath and changing to some decent dress (not the princessy one okay) I started brushing my long raven black hair that almost reached my legs. Yeah. That long.

I just like it that way!

Besides, it's in good condition. I've been told beautiful with this hair so why would I cut it?

Nevermind. (rolls eyes)

After doing my own shit, I got out to find Kana waiting for me.

"Let's go?" I nodded and we walked to the main lobby of the house, where Mom was talking with some visitors.

Hmm. Seems like it's another business matter, the visitors wore suits and I can't think of what may they want from Mom. She looks shocked, I ahem-ed cuz she didn't seem to notice me, her visitors did first see me.

Mom glanced at me, her shocked expression melted and she smiled like she usually do.

"Goodmorning, baby... I'm just talking with my business partner, just go on with breakfast and do your thing. I'll join you and Kana later, okay?"

"Uh, yeah Mom. Sure," I faced the suit clad men and bowed my head. I noticed this one man who is old, with clothing that was different from the others. A Chinese cloth, he looked like he was a high member of the rich society, and modern. However, no matter how intimidating his aura was, he smiled happily and suddenly my worries faded away.
The men inclined their head and I turned my back to walk away.

Kana is my sort of maid, but higher than the regualr maids in this building since I treat her my closest friend in this whole valley. Together, we walked again to the kitchen, in order to eat of course.

I know at this time there was already food ready for me, and I was right.

You might think I'm so lucky with this life I have. Maybe you're right... I consider myself lucky too you know.

But I'm wrong... I guess you can never have all you want.

A few days later, Mom called me to her room. She looked normal, except when she told me what she has to say, and she saw my expression, she teared up.

"I know this is too much, but your father told me our town is running out of basic needs. People has high demand, and the water we get from the oasis is running out; we have to get water from the City now. But we don't have enough money to buy what we need in order to connect to the source of water. The Tao Family is kind to ask me for a wonderful proposal like that."

"So that person who was Chinese was a rep from the Tao Family?"

"Yes, I'm so sorry darling..."

"It's nothing. If it helps you and the village. I'll do it, it's not like I'm eyeing someone either."

"Oh, please don't be hurt in the inside, Raviene. I know this person, he is just like his father; a little serious but his heart is made of gold. I just want you to be happy, my little baby."

"I am. I already am, Mom."

"Thank you..."

"It's fine..." I smiled slightly. Then looked solemnly at Mom, she hugged me and let me go after a few sobs.

"I'm so glad you grew up kind and beautiful, Raviene." Mom said, admiring me in a way a Mom does to her child.

"Thanks... I will marry Ren Tao for the whole village, I just hope he's not an arrogant little brat. I heard kids were like that in the city especially when they're rich."

Mom chuckled. "I don't think so."
