"According to the latest ratings, we won't have to worry about the social groups anymore! We can be whoever we want to be!" A girl cried out to her friends as they clapped loudly. They hopped up from their chairs, scoured at the teens looking on, and walked off with their heads held high. Typical, just typical valley girls. "Misty? What are you writing?" My teacher slowly said as she looked at me scribbling in my book. "Nothing..." I replied and lowered my head. She wouldn't dare have the chance to ruin my writing. Now what was I saying? Oh right! I'm Misty Melisande, one of the most unpopular kids in my school. Which at Fair Resolutions High, makes me the cleanest. Every guy tries to stalk me, date me, and see what my secrets are... But the know nothing about this girl! *Slam* my book is slammed shut under an ugly, old, female teacher. "Do not say nothing to me young lady. I expected your work to be done hours ago!" She loudly yelled pushing her thick glasses back. The glass in them looked so thick, she could probably fry me. "Well it's done obviously..." I replied as I brushed my hands on my pleaded skirt. "I just left it in my locker." I love lying, it's like a little thrill that gives me my well-deserved attention. I absolutely hate homework, so if I can get around it, I make sure that I do.
"Well you can go retrieve your research report now, Miss Melisande." She said as loud as she could. I could tell she wanted to collect the class's attention. She was getting me back for missing generally all of my assignments.
"Because if not, I'll be giving your parents a very personal call this evening. The emails don't seem to be working well enough."
I rolled my eyes and looked at the clock. And in my favor, the bell rang. The class became a strange sound of kids shuffling books and backpacks. The teacher sighed and started writing huge letters on the chalk board.
"Class remember your group assignment is also due this Friday. You have three days to finish whatever details are missing." She blurted out in a normal voice.
I nodded as though I were actually enthusiastic about it and gave her a fake, euphoric smile. Then I pretended to write it quickly as I tossed my things into my bag and flew out the door.
"Miss Melisande come back here this instant! I want that report!" She reverberated through the classroom.
"Yeah I do too!" I screamed back, probably louder than I should have. But that didn't matter. Tomorrow was a day off from school, and I would be cursed if I spent a Monday afternoon in Mrs. Mica's room.
"Yay Tuesday is a vacation day!" My best friend Anna Arthur squealed.
"Yeah hopefully we can use it to finish this stupid project." My other pal Vanessa Von Valley whispered.
"Heck no, we're gonna blow it! Who cares about some dumb project that's worth 60% of our grade? It's pointless!" I said with a huge smile.
Anna cleared her throat and rubbed the back of her head, "That might not be a recommended idea Misty... Our lives and educational future are being risked on the outcome of this assignment. Dodging it would be quite a conundrum for us in the long run. Based on statistics of course." She whined. Did I mention my friends like to complain a lot? They seem to find comfort in making creepy comments wherever they go. Vanessa is a major control freak that enjoys being too assertive. Where Anna loves being a know-it-all by ruining our lives and minds with hours of "intricate vocabulary". Where did a rule rebel like me pick these two- winners up? Even I can't tell you, but they seem to be girls you can depend on at times.
"Yeah I suppose she is right..." Vanessa said looking down and stroking her dark black hair. "Exactly! We had better not make such a noticeable kerfuffle over completing work. It's not like prim, proper girls our age should have the right to complain over papers that are not complex anyway. It's degrading and humiliating to our species of human itself. Why, I would feel so uncivilized if we had questioned our right to education by expressing too much individualism. That should be a sad, false accusation, a fake approximation of our astronomical strength. To even think that we as a class of women would-" I stopped her right in that sentence...
"Do us a favor, would you? Shut the holiday up! We're here to be party princesses! Not teacher's pets!" I yelled, screaming at Anna. I was screaming at her for such a long time, I hadn't heard the sound of our bully cheerleaders approaching.
