Chapter One

My shoes scruffed against the sidewalk, the damp cement making squeaking noises as I walked up the path to school. Oblivious to the muddy grass, my schoolmates were sprawled about the front lawn, laughing like hyenas and acting as if this was some social event, and not actual school.

"You look like a train hit you," My best friend, Liam, says as he breaks away from his friends who are rough housing in the mud.

"Thanks." I mumble, rolling my eyes. I did, in fact, look like I got hit by a train. I woke up with a piercing, relentless migraine that felt like I was getting hit on the top of my head with the blunt end of a hammer repeatedly. To add on to that, I hap fallen asleep while my clothes were in the wash, so I had to succumb to wearing a pair of loose ripped jeans and an old, odd fitting shirt that a logo for a band I didn't even recognize on it. And, to top that off, my hot iron wouldn't even, like, turn on - so my hair was sitting in a top knot where the hammer was hitting, and did I mention I had a freaking migraine?

"So," Liam started, looking at his feet. "Naomi said you stopped talking to her."

I sigh, my migraine giving a good kick at his words. Naomi was a headache in herself. "Liam." I warn, not saying anything about the subject.

He stayed quiet. By then we had gotten to the school's doors, where we usually parted ways. "I'll see you at lunch, Honor."

I don't reply. I just nod, walking off. My backpack weighs heavily on my shoulders, like a permenant brick on my back.

The hallways are crowded, per usual. I don't bother going to my locker; I didn't need to. First period Calculus was on the third floor, a journey throughout the school every single morning.

I'm making my way up the steps when someone's hand brushes against my arm, holding my elbow. I'm forced to stop, my foot hovering over the top step. I already know who it is, even before I look at her.

Naomi is wearing a Nirvana crop top and short shorts, her stomach very prompt. I can't help but let my eyes linger there, her tanned skin making my stomach flip.

"Hey, Naomi." I say, my eyes flicking up to her face. She's biting her lip.

"Hi, Honor," She starts. "Why didn't you.... Are you okay?" She asks, her eyes skimming the mostly clear stairway.

"I'm fine, you?" I needed to leave. Get to Calculas, forget about Naomi. She was another random, one I'd messed up with since she was Liam's cousin, something I hadn't known the night we hooked up.

"Good. I... Sorry," She finishes, rushing away. I sigh, and before I know it I'm the one catching her elbow. She looks at me with big eyes.

"I'm sorry, Naomi. I didn't know... I'm not good with relationships, okay? I... You deserve better." I excuse, which is true, but I know it sounds like utter bullshit. She seems to agree, nodding her head and giving a sad smile.

"See you later," And then she's gone, retreating done the steps in a haste.

I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and climb the staircase as the bell rings. Whatever. I didn't care about Calculas, anyway.
