CHAPTER SEVEN

"Hey." Mia comes out to the back of the building, where I walk on the cement paths to give the dogs a sort of exercise. Right now I'm walking a German Shepherd named Molly who nips at my feet.

I smile at her. "Hey." We hadn't talked since I left her house two weeks beforehand, but I didn't sense an awkwardness between us. She still winked at me and purposefully bumped into me in the halls.

"How are you?" She asked, coming next to me, matching my pace. Molly started sniffing Mia's feet.

"I'm alright." I lie. In a real sense, I was the worst possible I could be. The memories from my childhood started springing back to me in a horrifying flur, and on top of that, Liam wouldn't talk to me and Harry wouldn't leave me alone. "What about you?" I ask.

She shrugs, bumping shoulders with me. "Good. I was wondering if you wanted to hang out tonight?"

Usually, I would say no and make up an excuse to get out of it. But I knew Mia was the same way as I, and she wasn't looking for anything serious. And, well, after this week I deserved it.

So we agree to meet at my place around eight. It was already six thirty and my shift ended at seven, giving me an hour to get ready. I still had to eat dinner and clean up a bit. Knowing my dad would most likely not be home, tonight would go perfectly.

"Your house is huge!" Mia comments as she steps into the mudroom, shutting the door closed behind her. I did agree; our entryway had high ceilings and a grand staircase. Most of the rooms were full of dust, though, and no one occupied the space 99% of the time.

"I guess." I respond. I hated how big our house was. My dad was a high end lawyer, and after mom passed he couldn't stand living in our small cottage on the outskirts of town, just how she liked it. So we moved to the biggest neighborhood, notorious for mansions.

Mia looks at me, her smile faltering. "I'm sorry, did I say something wrong?"

I quickly put on a smile. "No! Of course not," Taking a small step forward, I cup her cheeks with my hands. "Just impatient."

Mia smirks, placing her hands on my hips. "Show me your room?" Our lips are eerily close when I pull away, giving her a small wink as I entwine our fingers together before pulling her up the stairs.

Mia's lips immediately latch onto mine as soon as we step foot in my room. Her hands go up the underside of my shirt, running over my bare stomach. Mine are already unbuttoning her tight jeans with a fierce vengeance.

"Honor?"

We both freeze at the sound of my father's voice.

I turn around slowly, embarrassment and shock written across my features. "Dad? I thought you weren't home."

He's glaring at us, steam coming out of his ears. (Not literally.) "Something has come up. I think you should walk your.... friend to the door, please."

I've never heard him like this, or seen him anywhere near angry. My dad and I never even talked, let alone did he spare the time to notice me, or let alone get mad.

I'm rooted to my spot, so when Mia utters an awkward goodbye and sneaks past me, I'm too shocked to reply anyway.

"Are you a dyke?" My dad asks, disgust evident in his tone.

My jaw drops. "What?"

Dad crosses his arms. "You heard me, Honor Lynn. Are. You. A dyke?"

"Why do you give a fuck?" I ask, immediately regretting it as he brings his hand up, slapping me across the face.
