I woke up to my alarm going off. I rolled over and slammed my hand on the clock. Groggy I got up and went to the shower. I still didn't feel like myself but I couldn't miss work. The shower was refreshing but still the pain in my heart. I finished up and put on a skirt with a blue blouse. Blue was Shay's favorite color.
I sighed as I slipped on my heels and headed downstairs. I poured myself some coffee as Lance looked up from the paper.
“Feeling any better?” He asked.
“No.” I said. “I wish I could just turn it off.”
“If that did work, would you really want to forget that you love her?” Lance smiled.
He knew me too well. “No. I could never forget that.”
I gave him a kiss as I picked up my keys and phone off the counter.
“I work late tonight so don't stay up.” Lance smiled.
“I won't.” I laughed as I shut the door behind me.
Getting in the car I wondered about Shay. I wondered if she asked where I went and what happened. I didn't know if I could face her. I get close to telling her how I feel but yet somehow it comes into my head that she's going to reject me. I tried to keep my mind off of her but that didn't last long.
I found Shay sitting on the corner off my desk as she often did waiting on me. As soon as she seen me she smiled.
“Good morning sunshine.” She said.
“Morning.” I said half hearted.
“I want to thank you for the gift.” Shay smiled.
“You're welcome.” I said.
“There's something I have been dying to ask you, are you free to get dinner with me tonight?” Shay asked.
How could I say no? “Sure.” I smiled.
“What happened last night? Lacey said you got sick.” Shay said.
“Yeah.” I lied. “I wasn't feeling good.”
“Why didn't you say something I would've took you home?” Shay said.
“I didn't want you to miss your party because of me.” I said putting a smile on.
“How did you get home?” Shay asked.
“Lance came to get me. “ I said.
“Oh. I thought I did something.” Shay said.
Yeah you did, I wanted to scream. You made me fall in love with you. “No you could never do anything. “ I lied.
“Good I will pick you up at say 6:30?” Shay asked.
“Perfect.” I smiled.
Work went by it's usual fast pace. I headed home and was worrying about Shay. I didn't know what she wanted to ask me. I was in my thoughts when the doorbell rang. I looked to see it was 6:30 on the dot. Shay was always punctual.
I grabbed my house keys and went to her truck. I hoped she was telling me she loved me before it was time to get married. The ride to the restaurant was quiet. Neither of us said a word.
We went inside and was shown a corner booth. Sitting down we ordered our drinks and looked over the menu. After we placed our orders Shay smiled at me.
“You're my best friend and I didn't know who to ask cause I have been thinking about this for awhile now. The wedding is a year off and I was wondering if you would be my best woman?” Shay asked.
