Set in modern time]
Warning: Veronica gets her period. I go into a little detail with the blood, but if you're cool with it, then read on. You have been warned. A little mature language, but not too bad. They are teens after all.
Veronica awoke to and unpleasant cramping in her lower abdomen. She opened her eyes slowly and felt a wave of nausea. "Shit." She thought. Getting up and walking slowly to the bathroom, she prayed that she had tampons or something useful. As soon as her feet his the tile floor she felt the growing urge to vomit and lunged for the toilet.
Once done, she flushed and stood letting her pajama pants and blood soaked underwear and quickly and quietly changed into more appropriate 'period' clothes. Veronica sighed. Basically a sweatshirt and Yoga pants. The sweatshirt said "Ever After High" on it. Ever After High was her secret binge. Looking at the sweatshirt she mumbled "Fuck you, Apple." And laughed in spite of herself.
Finding pain killers was a struggle, as was finding a comfy position on the couch, but all she hoped for now was a nice peaceful Saturday morning....... Knock Knock!
"Come in!" She called from the couch. Her parents were off on some trip anyway. "Who the hell would come so early?" She thought.
JD walked into the living room looking lively. "It's Saturday!" He announced. Veronica stared at him wide eyed. "No, I thought it was Wednesday!" She replied sarcastically. JD stuck his tongue out. Why was he so happy?
"What's with the "Bright" mood?" Veronica asked, waiting for the pain killers to kick in. JD smiled. "Today, no Heathers. Today, no diet coke headed jocks. Just us." He replied sighing with relief. Veronica agreed. Dealing with the Heathers was tough. Especially when you're "one of them".
"Yeah, I guess so."
Veronica clutched her stomach and winced. This caught JD's full, undivided attention. "What's wrong?" He asked.
The cramping had dialed down. "Nothing. I'm fine." Veronica said quickly. JD just looked more concerned. "Veronica, tell me." He pressed. Veronica went from one to ten. "I said nothing!" She shouted. JD rolled his eyes. "Oh, sure."Veronica felt uncontrollable tears well up in her eyes. "So you think I'm lying huh?" She asked, voice cracking. JD grew wide eyed. "What! NO!" He responded. JD took a few daring steps forward. "Why are you acting so emotional?" He asked. This question only aggravated her more. "EMOTIONAL?" She practically screamed breaking down into sobs.
JD didn't know what to do.
"Just go!" Veronica wailed. He didn't think twice. Dashing out of the house He stopped for a minute dazed and confused at how the that escalated so quickly. JD pulled out his phone and texted Heather Duke. She said to only text her if it was an emergency. Unfortunately, Duke didn't respond, so he texted Heather McNamara instead. She agreed to meet him at a coffee shop.
"So what do you need?" She asked sitting down at a table across from him. JD didn't know where to start. "Well," He started. "I went over to Veronica's house an hour ago and she was acting really weird." He said. Heather Mac looked at him blankly. "Specific." She bluntly remarked. JD shrugged it off. "Veronica was getting really emotional and just weird. And she clutched her stomach like it hurt and brushed it off as nothing."
Immediately Heather understood. "Ahhhhhhh! I see!" She exclaimed. JD looked at her questioningly. "What?" He asked. Heather giggled. "It's her time of the month." She laughed. JD looked even more confused. "Her what?" He asked. Heather looked at him seriously for a second. "Her period." She told him. JD's face didn't change. "A period? That goes at the end of a sentence." He replied. Heather stared at him shocked. "Damn. You're that sheltered?" She asked. JD nodded.
His mind exploded when Heather told him what periods were and what happened.
"Is she gonna be okay? That's a lot of blood!" He gasped. "Girls lose that much blood in a day without dying?" He thought. Heather Mac patted him on the shoulder. "Relax slushy boy, she'll be fine. It's normal." She assured him. JD still had so many questions. "How long do they last?" He asked. Heather Mac thought for a moment. "It really depends on every girl, but I know that for Veronica, it's a little over a week." She replied. JD's jaw dropped. "Over a week! How are you girls still living?" He shouted. "Shhhhh!" Heather Mac laughed. "I gotta motor," She said getting up.
"Wait! JD said. "I need advice." Heather Mac nodded. "I'd suggest buying an old Disney classic, chocolate, Honey Mustard and Onion Pretzel Pieces, a heating pad, and anything comfy and cozy. Make her feel special." She advised. JD nodded, determined to make Veronica happy.
Veronica was NOT having a good day. She started her period, had the worst cravings, exploded on her boyfriend, and spent the morning crying.
She heard the door open and close. "JD?" She called. JD came walking in with a big bag.
Veronica almost cried when she saw him. Almost.
"JD I'm so sorry!" She apologized.
"Don't be." JD replied. "Heather Mac told me what was going on, so I came back with some stuff to make you feel better."
Veronica blushed. She was honestly flattered. JD pulled out a bag of Honey Mustard and Onion Pretzel Pieces, a box of chocolates, a dark blue fluffy blanket, a heating pad, and a chocolate brown teddy bear. "See! I got you chocolate, a snack, a blanket, a heating pad, a bear, and I bought The Lion King so we can watch it together!" He proudly exclaimed.
Veronica started crying. JD's face fell. He walked over to her. "What's wrong? You don't like it?" He asked. Veronica threw her arms around his neck. "I love it!" She cried into his shoulder. "Thank you so much!"
JD kissed her forehead. "Anytime."
The whole rest of the day they watched The Lion King ate lots of junk, and just talked.
And Veronica was never happier.
I hope you liked it.
I know, JD was a little out of character, but I wanted him to go a bit over board with the pampering. He was a little protective, but I wanted to display his sweet side too.
Should I continue this with a bunch of short stories, because I might.
Signing off,
