Bear hugs

The song, Fluorescent Adolescent, by Arctic Monkeys played from my phone. That was my cue to get up.

I'll skip to the part where I am waiting with Emma to have lunch with her cousin. I was wearing an Imagine Dragons T-shirt with black skinny jeans and my vans. Not that big of a difference from my daily attire. Emma was wearing a black blouse with blue high waisted shorts and combat boots. We were sat at a table at a restaurant near by our flat. The table was outside so we were able to enjoy the breeze.

"Emma, calm down, you're shaking the table. It's not a big deal."

My words of comfort only made Emma fidget more.

"I know, but what if this goes wrong?"

I stayed silent because I honestly have no idea why she is getting so nervous. As I was about to tell her that everything will be fine, the curly haired boy from the coffee shop came to our table.

"Hello, lovely ladies."

Before Emma could respond, I interjected, "Ugh, what do you want?"

"Hey, that's no way to greet your best friend's cousin."

"As if I give a fu- wait, did you say cousin?"

Emma gave her cousin a hug and said, "Well this is a good start, how do you guys know each other?"

He replied with, "It's a long story. Sparing you the small details, we are very close."

I scoffed, "Please, unless you're talking about your legs and your jeans, then I believe you're mistaken. Emma, this is the prick from the coffee shop yesterday."

Emma had a creepy smile on her face and said, "Well let me introduce you properly. Harry this is Madison, and Madison this is Harry."

The rest of the lunch was just Harry and Emma making small talk while I deliberately avoided Harry's gaze. I'm a girl, we hold grudges.

When we all finished, Harry excused himself to go to the bathroom.

"Ehh so you and Harry right?"

"What are you talking about?"

"I think you two would look adorable together."

I looked at Emma with complete disgust, but she took that as a sign to continue.

"Imagine how your kids would look like. One boy and one girl. They would be so cute. Just like you next to Harry."

"Hey ladies, what are you talking about."

Emma and I had this connection thing where we both spoke at the same time. I think hers is broken though because while I said a quiet nothing and started to sip on my soda, she said, "Oh I was just telling Madison how cute your babies would be."

These 12 words caused me to spit out all of my drink, all over Harry.

Harry stayed abnormally quiet while I was dying of laughter.

"I can't say I didn't deserve that, but..."

Next thing I know, I'm wrapped up in a big bear hug with Harry. I knew that resisting would make him hug me even longer so I opened my arms and gave him a hug. He quickly let go.

"I did not expect that coming from a hateful person like you."

I gasped and put my hand over my heart, "What are you trying to say?"

"Your heart is beautiful, just like you."

It was obvious that Harry was just mocking me but Emma decided to aww and say, "Alright, I'm going to go now. You guys can continue to hang out and flirt with each other."

Before I could say something, Emma literally ran away screaming. People turned to look at us, so I just gave an awkward wave and turned back around to face Harry.

"Umm, I'm not too fond of you, so umm yea I'm going to go. Bye."

I turned around and tried to walk away, but Harry held my wrist and pulled me towards his chest. You know how in movies the guy pulls the girl and then they slightly bump and stare lovingly into each other's eyes? What actually happened was that Harry caught me way off guard, causing us both to fall with me on top of him.

"I know you're feisty, but when you're with me, I'm the one on top."

I just scoffed and got back on my feet. I offered Harry my hand, which he took and then when he was almost up, I let go, causing him to fall again.

When he finally got up, he looked frustrated, so I ran. After like two blocks I noticed that he was right behind me so I tried to run faster, but my short legs were no match for his. He carried me on his shoulder.

"As much as I enjoy the view, I've seen better and I prefer you put me down."

All I heard was a simple okay before I was dropped. He offered me his hand, but I knew better and stood up by myself.

"Smart and feisty. I like it."

I rolled my eyes while he continued to speak, "I'm sorry for spilling your coffee over you."

To say I was in shock would be an understatement, "Are you serious?"

"Yes, hang out with me tomorrow and then use that to see if I'm actually a jerk."

The offer was tempting but I stood my ground, "I can't. I want to find an empty space so I can set up an art studio. My bedroom is getting crowded."

Harry's smile didn't seem to fade, instead it grew wider, if that's even possible.

"Great, I have the perfect place, but I will only show you it if you hang out with me."

I let out a long sigh and told him my decision.
