Chapter 2

Unfortunately, I didn't connect with Mel. The next thing I heard was the sound of the door clicking shut, so I rolled over to see who was coming in.

Eva smiled and sarcastically asked "Still mad?"

"I don't get mad. I get even." I said still a little groggy.

"I'll take my chances." She smirked. "Damian will be back in about an hour. I thought you might want to shower and eat before he does."

"That reminds me." I smiled a little devious. "I'd be willing to call us even, if you could get me some jeans and T-shirts."

She laughed lightly and said "I might be able to do something about that."

"Please." I begged childishly.

As she rolled her eyes and flopped down on the bed, she said "Okay."

As I half wrapped an arm around her waist, I said "Thank you SO much."

"So, what did you two talk about after I left?" She asked wryly.

"Wouldn't you like know?" I asked sarcastically, as I rolled myself over and sat up.

"Yes. I would. I didn't hear everything." She said faking an urgency.

"Fine." I grumbled and added "I'll think it over for you." After I thought over everything, I added "I have to admit. I'm really glad you're here, Eva. You make everything seem so ... normal and simple. I honestly don't know what I'd do without you."

"You're just saying that because it's true." After we both laughed a little, she asked "So, what do you want to eat? You've been out since yesterday afternoon, and it's almost eight o'clock at night."

"Something simple. ... How about a grill cheese?"

"Okay. Anything with it?"

"Mt. Dew."

"Besides that." She laughed.

I shook my head and said "No. I'm not that hungry, anyways."

As she stood up, she said "I'll be back before you're out of the shower."

As I got up, too, I said "Okay. See you in a few."

Just before she opened the door, she called "Alexis?"

I turned toward her and called "Yeah?"

"I really like you, too." She said with a soft smile, and I smiled back.

After she left, I grabbed something to wear and took a shower. 'I wonder why I didn't get Mel. ... Maybe, she was asleep or something. ... I was out for a day and half, though. I should've been able to get her at some point. ... She must've been asleep when I was at the point where I could connect. ... I guess I'll have to try again.' I cringed a little as the last thought crossed my mind. 'That means more venom. ... Okay. Maybe, not. I'll wait for Mel to connect to me.' As I started to get dressed, I heard something out in the bedroom and assumed it was Eva, but, when I went out there, I didn't see her or anyone else. "Eva?" There was no answer, so I walked toward the table and kept glancing around, expecting to see her or someone else. When I got to the table, I noticed she had already set a grilled HAM and cheese sandwich and an opened can of Mt. Dew on the table. 'That must have been what I heard. She opened it?'

After I shook myself mentally, I sat down and enjoyed the peace and quiet, while I ate. 'She's so easy to get along with. ... Mel and her would get along perfectly. ... I wish I could've connected to her.' I had the sudden feeling I was being watched and glanced around. I couldn't see anyone, but I knew someone was there. "You don't have to hide." I waited a few seconds and added "I know you're there."
