Chapter 12

When I came to, I was a little disoriented, and it took me a few minutes to realize where I was, tucked into Damian's chest. I was on my left side, and Damian was on his right, facing me. His right arm was under my head and wrapped around me, resting his hand on my shoulder. Lightly holding me against him, his right arm was around me, with his hand tucked under my left side. My arms were folded in front of me, barely keeping us apart. 'If I didn't know any better, I'd think last night was a nothing more than a dream.'

'It wasn't a dream.' Eva thought.

A little surprised that she was there, I thought 'I know.'

'Malcolm woke me up after he left you. I heard ... and felt everything.'

'I'm so sorry, Eva.'

'It's not you who should be apologizing.'

'You know he won't, so I'll apologize for him.'

'I meant, he should apologize to you.'

'Yeah, right. He won't.'

'You didn't do anything wrong, Lex. He was in the wrong. Not you."

'Well, don't tell him that, or he might rip your head off.'

'Let him try.' She thought with a thick edge.

'Don't, Eva. ... Don't fight with him over me. I don't want him pissed at you, too. I'll handle it. It'll be okay. I'll be okay.'

'When it gets out of hand, I'm taking over.'

'It won't get out of hand, again. ... You should go, before he wakes up.'

'Don't forgive him so easily. He thinks you stayed because of Mel and Charlotte and because you know he'll go after you.'

As I let my guard down, I thought 'Then show him why I stayed. ... They were only part of the reason why I stayed this time, but it's not the only reason I stayed before. ... I WAS falling for him, and I hate to admit it because he won't believe it, now. Maybe, it doesn't even matter, anymore.' Damian started to stir, hugging me tighter against him, and I thought 'Go. Before he wakes up.'

'I won't be far. If you need me, let me know.'

As I felt her hand leave my leg, I thought 'Thanks, Eva.' I faintly heard the door shut and thought 'Get Malcolm up. We should get going.' Damian stretched, rolling to his back, and I half rolled away from him.

"Are you awake?" He asked in whisper.

"Yeah." I answered.

"Did you really mean it?" He quietly asked with doubt in his voice.

"Mean what?" I asked a little confused, slowly sitting up.

"Do you love me like you do him?"

"I did." I murmured as I slid myself off of him and started to move away from him.

As he gently grabbed my shoulder, I stiffened and froze under his touch, and he slid his hand down my arm and whispered "You don't have to afraid of me."

"I'm not just afraid of you, Damian. I'm afraid of what you'll do." I breathed.

I felt him moving behind me and stayed perfectly still. "I won't hurt you, again." He murmured. As his breath washed over the skin of my neck, I cringed, shying away from him. "We're starting over, again, aren't we?" He sighed against my neck and ear. My pulse began to race, and my breathing became quick and shallow. Lightly tracing my neck with his fingertips, he added "Everything will be better soon."
