"I talked to my friend at the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures and the Transfiguration Professor here at Hogwarts, Minerva McGonagall, and they both said that it could be done."Albus told Ren the next time they met.

"Then let's do it!" She said enthusiastically.

"We can, if you're willing to do so. However, you could be seriously injured during the process, or even die."

Ren thought this over in her head. "I'm willing to do it."

Albus nodded his head. "Then it shall be."

———

Ren smiled as she told Blaise the information she had learned earlier that day.

"Why are you so happy about this? You could die!" Blaise said furiously.

Her smile faltered, "I thought this is what you wanted?"

"I want you! That's all, you!" Blaise walked away from her and the lake, stomping his way back to the castle.

———

Ren swam to the window. It had been awhile since she'd last seen Blaise, and she missed him. She hated him for what he said, for he didn't understand her inner struggle. Nevertheless, she tried her best to return to him.

At the window, Blaise was staring out into the lake. Ren placed her hand on the window, and Blaise matched his hand with hers, just like the first time they met. A single tear silently ran down the side of his face and Ren looked him in the eyes.

She felt the warmth of his body, even being separated by a whole wall. She felt his love and knew exactly what she had to say.

"I love you," She mouthed before swimming away.

———

The next morning, Albus was standing on the surface. He was surrounded by a man and a woman. Ren slowly emerged from the water as Albus was talking to the people next to him.

"Are you sure about this?" He asked her once her body was fully out of the water.

"Yes." Was all she said.

The operation took most of the morning. For Ren, it was more painful than the heartbreak  she experienced when leaving her family. And the heartbreak she experienced when seeing Blaise.

All of the sudden, she heard frustrated noises come from the woman. Her vision started going out and she continued to become more exhausted with each labored breath.

"I don't think she'll make it, Albus."

"She has to!"

"It was risky enough to try this procedure, and I don;t know what in Merlin's name made me agree to do it!" There was silence. "I have to leave before I inflict anymore pain on this young girl."

"She's right, Albus! I don't know what's gotten into you!"

The last thing she heard were footsteps. She didn't even feel Blaise hugging and crying over her limp body. She didn't even hear, "I love you, Ren! Come back!"
