DAYS WENT BY since Arwen encountered Aurelian-the strange deer that turned out to be a mage of some sort.

'What kind of mage can change into animals though?' Arwen wondered-the power to shift into creatures was never a power Arwen had ever heard of a mage being able to do.

Arwen was relieved however that she was away from Aurelian, there was no way she was going to let him make her go somewhere she had no knowledge of.

Or with anyone she had no knowledge of for that matter, she looked out at the open meadow she was in before where she had seen the pegasuses.

She didn't mean to come back this way but in the last few days that she's been here-she hasn't seen any signs of the black pegasus anywhere.

Arwen felt tired as she laid in the grassy field gazing up at the floating clouds.

She tried to stay as far away from the pegasuses as possible leaving the magnificent white steeds to dwell in their meadows peacefully.

It's been a long time since Arwen had felt as tired as she was feeling now, she felt as though if she was to go to sleep she would never wake up.

As Arwen laid there gazing mindlessly at the clouds, when a white head popped into her view-Arwen's eyes widened as she realized it was a pegasus.

It gazed down at her with its dark eyes ears pricked forward, Arwen's heart sped up-she wondered if it was thinking about stomping her brains out.

The pegasus did the opposite however and turned from Arwen, the sound of the grass crunching under its hoofbeats slowly drifted away.

Arwen sighed in relief, she sat up trying to see where the white steed went.

Her eyes widened as she saw that the pegasus wasn't the only one near her, the small band of pegasuses was apparently migrating up through their meadow-where Arwen happened to be.

Arwen stood up amazed that some of the mares merely lifted their heads while chewing on the lush grass between their teeth, to look at her-their dark eyes expressed their calm nature.

They never once flew away from her nor tried to harm her like they've been described to do in books Arwen had read, in her old village.

They simply went on with their grazing fluttering their beautiful white wings every so often.

Arwen smiled for the first time in days since she's been alone as two of the foals galloped about on their long lanky legs. Their short white manes and tails drifted in the wind behind them as they raced each other.

It was an experience she knew she'd never forget.

As the day went by Arwen began studying the pegasuses-learning how they work in the small group, she counted only about ten of them.

Consisting of five mares, two stallions and three foals. One of the mares appeared to be the leader of the bunch, she was the one that came up to Arwen and decided that she was no threat to them.

'But why?... Don't the pegasuses hate humans?' She couldn't quite grasp the concept of the way the pegasuses were actually thinking.

The lead mare stayed alert lifting her head every waking moment swiveling her ears listening-and scanning the open meadow and the evening sky with her dark eyes.

Arwen could tell that she was restless but why? Arwen couldn't figure out.

Arwen began to hear wingbeats fill the air-the mare tossed her head into the air and let out a loud whinny.

Arwen looked up to the sky to see strange bird-like creatures circling them from above.

There were three of them, the band of pegasuses reared flaring their wings in fear.

Arwen saw the creatures land before the pegasuses they had coppery-brown and white feathers underneath their shiny bronze...armor.

Arwen recognized the creatures to be gryphons-a well known predator of the pegasuses.

And there rode upon them were men, Arwen had heard stories of the Kingdoms hunting pegasuses for their wings-they are said to have healing properties.

"Round them up and kill them all!" She heard one man command.

The lead mare seemed to protest as she reared neighing at them. Arwen couldn't understand why the band wasn't just flying away-until she remembered that the foals couldn't fly yet.

Arwen became sick to her stomach as the men sicked their gryphons out on the small band of pegasuses-the lead mare collided with one of the three gryphons while the two stallions took on the others.

The remaining pegasuses stayed close to the foals protecting them-but no matter what the mare did to the gryphon her kicks weren't connecting.

They simply bounced off of its armor, Arwen's heart instantly stopped when the gryphon easily pinned her to the ground, she struggled to break free of the gryphon's talons.

Arwen felt anger rise up in her, she had to do something! Arwen gripped her fists and ran down the meadow-when she became in range she fired a lightning bolt straight at the gryphon who had the mare pinned.

The gryphon shrieked in pain as its eye was zapped by Arwen's bolt of lightning.

It rose up on its back paws flaring its wings wildly and throwing its rider off.

The lead mare rolled to her hooves and whinnied to her herd, the two stallions already laid dead under the other two gryphons' talons.

The band whirled and bolted on thundering hooves towards the woods-the mare however hesitated as she looked at Arwen. "Go! Runaway!" Arwen shouted at her waving her hands at her.

The mare seemed to understand and took off after her herd, the man who fell off his gryphon however gathered to his feet and yoked Arwen up.

"Well, well-what do we have here, a filthy mage!" Anger etched the man's face.

The other two gryphons riders surrounded her, their beasts looming over her.

"Let me go!" Arwen yelled struggling to get free of the man's grip.

To Arwen's surprise he did, by throwing her to the ground.

"The other Kingdoms must be doing an awful job of ridden these mages from their lands" the man said smugly.

Arwen glared up at him, remembering what had happened to her village-Arwen struck the man with a bolt that he didn't even see coming.

The man stumbled back-but he was the first to ever keep his ground against Arwen's power.

The man's gryphon suddenly lunged at her-Arwen cried out as sharp claws dig into her side.

The gryphon that now only had one good eye thanks to Arwen now pinned her to the ground, fast breaths came in and out of Arwen as the pain increased.

She could feel her hot blood oozing out of her as the world began growing darker for her.

"We'll rid you of this world ourselves" were the last words she heard.
