“How am I going to do this?” I ask myself as I pace across my room. Beads of frustrated sweat form at the back of my neck. I sigh and slide my hands over my face. I slump onto my comfy bed. The sheets crinkle beneath my body. “How do I tell one that I’m falling for him and the other that I just want to be friends?! UGH… He’s is going to hate me for friend zoning him…”
“I’m sure you’ll think of something.” Nevaeh wiggles her way through the doorway into my emotion-filled room. “Everything is going to be alright.” She reassures me and pulls me into her embrace. I smile slightly.
“Hopefully. I can’t stand the fact that he might hate me. Probably will. He’s one of my closest friends.” I interlock my fingers and rest my hands in my lap.
“Yeah… He is one strong, ruthless guy. You don’t want to be on his bad side.” She says playfully. Tears form in my eyes. “Trench butt!” She jumps to her feet and turns back to face me. “You’ll figure it out. So who are you going to talk to first, Elijah or Damian?”
“I’m meeting Damian over by the sunflower fields.” I slide my fingers through the strands of my navy blue, purple hair.
“Good luck. I’m sure everything will be okay!” She sounds convinced. “Besides after you tell the boys who you chose then your life will be so much easier…” She pauses, “Well kind of. If you don’t think about all the people who want to kill you and the people who have died and are going to die because of you.”
No words escape my dry mouth. My empty tongue, a wordless muscle, stands still in my pink mouth.
“I’m sorry! I’m supposed to be a good friend but instead I’m being a downer…” She slouches. I wrap my bruised arms around her.
“It’s okay. You’re doing okay.” I squeeze her and walk out the door. I step towards the guys. One’s heart will soon be filled with joy and the other filled with sorrow.

My feet drag against the dusty ground. My heart aches more with ever stride I take. The open sky has fallen to a dark place. It’s probably as emotional as I am. Rain drops begin to fall. Only miniature ones though. Soon the dusty ground beneath me will become a slush of goo. That is definitely something that is not on my looking-forward-to list.
“I thought you wouldn’t come.” He grins. I don’t return his welcoming smile. I only sign. His mouth flattens, “You’re mom hasn't passed yet has she?”
“Damian… My mom is fine. Well in a sense.”
“You’ve decided…” Fear flashes in his once again purple eyes.
“Finally…” I say.
“I don’t want to know who it is yet. I want to enjoy this time. Just a few minutes. Please.” I nod and step closer to him. Water begins falling ferociously from the sky. “I think that things can’t always be bad. Well at least I hope. I hope things turn around soon.”
