(This is a short story for school, I haven't read over it so it probably has many mistakes. Oh well. Enjoy!!!)
6:00 A.M, that's when the power went off. 6 O'clock was when my alarm was silenced. 6 is when the world ended.
I awoke to my alarm blaring on the left side of my bed. Groggily, I rolled over and lifted my hand to silence it, but before I could, it stopped. Stupid old alarm clock, I'll just close my eyes for a second. Eyelids grew heavy as I chastised my brain telling it to keep my body awake, but I was out.
My body and brain gathered itself as I got up from my short nap. I'm so stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid! Now I'm going to be late for school and that dumb idiot is giving the unit test today!
Hobbling across the granite floors I grabbed a fuzzy orange and black blurr and kissed her on top of the head. She squealed in protest. "Flower! You're making it sound like I'm killing you!" Flower looks up and claws at my stomach until I let her go. As she runs away I see her run to the left of the living room. Hm, usually she goes to her food bowl first thing in the morning. Oh well, maybe she isn't going to gorge herself with food for the first time in her life. I walked farther into the living room when I finally noticed what was wrong.
Two bodies were hanging in front of my window, tiny thumps echoing around the apartment as the wind blew them side to side. One body had thick strawberry blonde hair threading down her back and over her red pajamas as the other was bald with bloody smears etched across his pale head. Mom? Dad?
As I approach the window I see Flower looking up at the bodies swaying. I can't read her fur covered face. Where's Penny!? Fear streaks my already twisted face as I sprint from room-to-room looking for her. When I walk into my parents room I see a large black tail peeking out from under the bed. "Aww Penny, come here," I exhale as I lift up the dust ruffle to see her panic stricken face. The black blob hesitantly crawls into my arms as I kiss her on her head.
It may of been the fear or maybe the pure shock of what had occured that lead me to act as if it was a normal day. As I walked into the kitchen I poured myself a cup of water, grabbed the cat food and poured some into Flower's bowl. The tortie seemed ecstatic to see food since it was past her normal breakfast time. I begin to walk over to the window ledge as my eyes refuse to look at the bodies, I pour food into Penny's bowl. As I turn around I see her peeking behind the corner, refusing to step out into the open. Her wide, green eyes protesting to move from the majestically swaying bodies.
My butt plops down on the orange and red couch as I nuzzle my way into the pillows. My hands paw blindly around me for the remote as I stare straight at the TV. The tips of my pinky finger feel a familiar rigid object and I pull it close to me seeing the black remote with colorful buttons. I lift it up to the television and click the green "On" button. Nothing happens. I click it again, a little more ancy this time. When I peek over to the oven clock I see it blinking green, "6:00 A.M." The power must've gone out?
The long legs attached to my torso straighten as I get up and approach the fear blinding seen in the window. I touch my hands to the cold glass as it begins to fog, through that fog I see tiny black blurs sprinkled and pouring from the windows of the tall building, swaying in the wind like chimes. More bodies.
My body grows heavy, black dots begin shoveling into my vision, my hearing goes, I feel sweat prickling up against my arms, and I drop to the granite as everything goes black.
Night begins to shed it's veil over the city of Chicago as I pack up my bags. A bread knife, seven sandwiches, a plastic bag of cat food, blankets, and ten bottles of water. I grab my keys as I kiss Penny and Flower goodbye. I hope they don't eat all eleven pounds of cat food that I left for them in one day. The door closes behind me as I proceed to make sure it is locked. "Here I go!"
