chapter sixteen-

Lucie sprints away from the cockpit. The plane is too small, full of weapons and suits and things she doesn't want or need.

She scrambles, panicking. There, a dull grey backpack-like object, hanging on the wall, almost invisible in the steel prison this bird has become. She straps it on and clicks it around her waist. Her hands, moving faster then she thought possible. Second nature, she guessed. Agent 85, the past her, must have done this quite a bit.

She can hear the dull thud as the other plane's chute connects to the porthole of an entrance. She can hear the shouting of men. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath.

And pulls the heavy latch down.

A blast of freezing air slams her in the face, making her stumble. She's losing precious seconds here. She crawls forwards on her hands and knees, tears being forced out her eyes. She reaches the edge of the hatch, and sees nothing but white clouds below. The howl of the wind fills her ears.

"Freeze!" orders a stern male voice. He sounds middle-aged, and there's compassion in his tone. He sounds like he's panicking. Not anything like the Hydra men she'd shot and broken back where she had been held, but then again, she'd mostly just heard screams. "Stop! We can help you!"

Help her? They'd put her in a cage. Again. Her mother's bloody face rose up in the gaps between her vision.

She doesn't turn to look back as she flings herself over the edge, spinning so fast. her vision flashed black and white. It decides to stay on black after a few terrifying moments, and Lucie's eyes flutter closed as she falls from the sky.
