I held my champagne flute close to my chest and let the noise around me fade in to just a quiet background fuzz. I watched the tide in the distance come in and cover the sand, before drifting away again, I felt as though my body could start swaying with how I pictured the waves to sound up close.
A figure close to my shoulder made me jump and spin around, my breath caught in my throat and came out as a cough. Subtle. He smirked, and my god it was sexy. His blue eyes twinkled and he looked out to the sea. I opened and closed my mouth like a fish before looking around at the rest of the place, nothing had changed. There were children screaming with excitement rolling down the hill, the hay bails were all being sat on by people I'd never even seen before and the massive marquee slowly filling up. I looked back at the view of the beach below us. Do I say something? My palms felt sweaty, he's gorgeous.
"How much would I have to pay you to run and jump in?" His voice rings through my ears, like the ball in pin ball hitting every section of my brain,
"There's not enough money in the world" I muse, glancing at him with a smile. I notice his eyes are on me when I turn back to the sea. I glug back the last of the champagne in my glass and turn around,
"Maybe more champagne instead" he flashes his smile and nods at my glass,
"Maybe" I smirk back, one more champagne and I'll do anything for you!
"Well in that case.." he reaches out and grabs another two drinks off a waiters tray as they walk past, "if you will I will" he winks and drinks from his glass, I stop my smile from getting even bigger by taking a sip from mine,
"Let's just see how it goes" I laugh nervously,
"If you could all make your way in to the marquee please, your evening is just about to start!" A voice comes through the speakers. I give him a brief smile and walk past him towards the marquee, very aware he was close behind.*****
I watched the first dance in awe. The way they looked at each other and the way all the guests looked at them made me want to fall madly in love. I caught the handsome man looking at me and all I could do was blush and look down at the table, occasionally taking large swigs of champagne to build up the courage to actually smile back. Grow a pair Mia.
*****
"Thought I'd find you here" his familiar voice came from behind, I smiled and spun around,
"You we're looking for me?" I raised my eyebrow. I couldn't stop my eyes wandering down his body. His tux was a lot more relaxed now, his jacket open and his tie slightly loosened, his shirt tight against his torso. He steps in front of me, his eyes burn in to mine,
"Must be important, very close to the bride, I don't think we've met before?" He sips his beer,
"Amy? She's my aunt, you?" Please don't let us be somehow related?!
"My mother's best friend" he steps around me to look back out at the sea we'd been looking at earlier that day, come on Mia, speak! I down the rest of my vodka coke and step next to him. I was feeling very fuzzy, I never drank so I wasn't used to it, but I was enjoying the confidence it was giving me,
"I will if you will" my voice is quiet, low. He looks down at me, his eyes searching mine before he grabs my hand and leads me to a track leading out of the field, "is this where you attack me?" I ask,
"Nah, I'll save that for the beach so I can throw your body parts in to the sea" he calls back to me. We walk quickly down towards the beach, my heart is thumping in my chest distracting my brain from any sensible thoughts about what we're doing down here. I hear the sound of the crowd coming out the marquee. It must be for the fireworks. We finally come to a stop, we're on top of a wall with the beach just beneath us.
"Still think you can manage?" He smirks, looking back at me. The sun has very nearly disappeared but it's the perfect lighting. I nod slowly, though inside I'm shaking my head and considering running back up to join everyone else,
"Maybe not jumping in" I laugh nervously,
"Stay there" he let's go of my hand and jumps off the wall landing softly in the sand, "coming?" He asks, reaching up to catch me, I nod slowly and sit on the edge of the wall, I could probably manage this, but it's so sweet that he wants to help me. I smile and slowly scoot to the edge before pushing myself off, his hands are under my arms and my feet hit the sand. Having his hands on my body makes the fireworks seem like they're in my belly. I look out at the sea, watching the waves slowly rolling in. I catch him looking at me, say something Mia! I bite my lip and move my hair over my shoulder, turning my back to him,
"Could you?" I ask quietly, pointing to the zip at the back of my dress. The fireworks going off above us makes me feel like I'm in a movie, it makes me feel like this could be one of the best spontaneous things I've ever done. His fingers slowly pull the zip down, I feel him close behind me, his warm breath hitting the back of my neck, giving me goosebumps. The zip reaches just above my panties. I take a deep breath and slide the straps off my shoulders, letting the dress fall in to the sand. I step out of my shoes and look at the sea one more time, "come on then" I say nervously as I run in to the sea, feeling it harder to run the deeper I get I fall forward, I can hear him laughing on the beach and by the time I turn around both his hands are in his hair at the back of his head, "you can't chicken out on me now!" I call. I watch him slip out of his jacket, pulling the tie over his head and unbuttoning the shirt. The lighting is doing his body wonders, I tread the water and watch him, every now and then he'll light up a faint red or green depending on the firework. His trousers drop to the sand and he gently jogs in to the sea. I can't stop the smile spreading across my face,
"Ahhhh shit!" His body tenses in the water. Wow, I must be drunk...it's cold?! I laugh at him and he comes to meet me, "something funny?" He asks, his jaw clenched from the cold,
"No" I reply sweetly, "just remember it was your idea to get me in here" I smile, biting my lip. He shakes his head and laughs, teasing me with a small splash. I push the water back at him and try to swim away. I feel his hand grab my ankle and pull me back towards him,
"Don't think you can get away that easily" I laugh but try and fight it, turning around on to my back so that I don't get a mouthful of sea water. He pulls me close to him and I find myself wrapping my legs around him, he reaches for my hand and pulls me up, resting my palm on his shoulder. He uses his hands to keep us steady in the water, his eyes watch my face, I notice them flick down to my lips. Kiss me. He reaches up and tucks a piece of hair behind my ear, my hair now wet and tangled. His hand lingers on the side of my face before slowly bringing his to meet mine. Our lips gently meet and as they do I feel my body go limp, I've never felt anything so perfect in my life. My hands go from his shoulders up to his jaw to cup his face, while his travel from my back to rest one on my hip and the other on my thigh. I feel his tongue against my bottom lip, asking for permission. I slowly pull away and rest my forehead against his, his eyes flick open and look up at mine, "sorry" he whispers, I shake my head and smile. The last fireworks end and we hear cheers from the guests.
"We should go back up" I whisper, before my dad starts looking for me. Lame. He nods and gently flicks his dark hair out of his eyes. He puts me down and we walk out of the sea, gently splashing water at each other. We reach our piles of clothes on the sand, both putting them on our wet bodies sneaking glances at each other.
"Great" I mumble, looking down at myself. My dress was wet from my body and so was hanging low, exposing the top of my bra. I heard a low chuckle,
"It's a good look" He smirked playfully. His shirt was clinging to his wet chest and he stuffed his tie in his back pocket, "seen something you like?" he raises an eyebrow at me and rolls up the bottoms of his trousers. I bite my lip and start walking towards the wall we jumped off, I felt his body close behind and his hands gently rest on my hips, "jump" he instructed. I did as he said and jumped up, his hands helped me get higher and I managed to pull myself up on top of the wall. I saw a look of victory come over his face before he took a few steps back and ran to the wall, pushing himself up with his hands. I watched him in awe, he brushed his hands off and reached for mine to help me up. Once I was up he didn't let go, our fingers laced together and we slowly walked back up to the marquee, talking quietly about ourselves.*****
"Will! There you bloody are! You missed them!" A short blonde lady was waving her hand through the crowd of people all walking out the marquee, "You..Oh gosh, Will what's happened?" she looked horrified as she reached out and felt the bottom of his wet sandy shirt, he laughed and glanced at me, "Oh!" Her mouth dropped open, "Hi sweetie" she smiled sweetly at me, looking down at my dress,
"Nice to meet you" I smiled shyly shaking her outstretched hand,
"William, introduce us!"
"This is my mum, Amanda" He laughed awkwardly,
"I'm Mia" I smile, directing it at both of them,
"Well, I suppose I'll leave you kids to it" she winked at me and walked around us, "Sarah Hi!" I heard her voice disappear in to the background,
"Nice to meet you, Mia" Will said quietly, testing my name on his tongue, his mouth still showing a faint smile,
"Will" I smiled, nodding,
"Can I take you out?" He asked, his eyes never leaving mine,
"N-now?" I stuttered, looking down at myself. He laughed and shook his head,
"Tomorrow" he stated confidently, yes...yes! I nodded slowly,
"I think I could make it" I joked which got me a poke in the ribs.*****
