Gabriel's POV
It had been 3 months since I had found Crystle. 3 months of torture for me as watched her in the same hospital bed sleeping. The nurses no longer attempted to send me home. After the first week, I knew that I wasn't going to leave her side until the day she woke up, and then not even then. I left her before when I should have kept her by my side. Mom and Dad came to visit often. They had always seen Crystle as another daughter and seeing her in this state hurt them emotionally as well.
Jade used to come by everyday, since the two had been bestfriends for years, but now she just hides herself in her bedroom, refusing to come out, even for food. Both of my parents have tried to get her to come out. I've tried to get her to come up and see Crys and I, but to no avail.
Crys's nurse, Tylda, came in to check her vitals and to give me a tray of disgusting hospital food. "Alpha. It looks like she might wake up soon. I promise." She says like she does everytime that she comes in and sees me. She's said that same sentence for the past week. At first it gave me immense hope that I would finally be able to speak with my mate and get more than an increased heart rate.
I thought that I missed her before, but now, looking into her face, seeing she sleep there, all signs of the past wiped away, I notice that I would give anything and everything to see her blue eyes again, see her smile, and hear her voice.
As I study her yet again, noticing the same things, I see that the blue dye in her hair is fading at the roots, and her natural dark brown hair is peeking through. When we were kids I used to make fun of her hair, because it didn't match her personality. I always thought that the dark brown didn't suit her outgoing, spontaneous nature. The day after I put distance between us, she had died her hair electric blue, and had kept it up for the year and a half that I left her.
I didn't notice until I escaped my thoughts that I was smiling for the first time in awhile. I guess that looking back on the positive parts of our relationship brought out a happier side of me. I took her tiny hand in mine, whispering. " You gotta wake up Crys, so you can smack the crap outta me for letting you go."
"That there sounds like some sort of motivation, huh Crys." I hear a voice say. I look up and see Jade leaning in the doorway.
" Hey sis, how are you doing?" I ask surprised that she showed up here. She had bags under her eyes, which were red and puffy.
"Been better, but what can I say. Doctor called the house and said that she might wake up today and I wanted to be here with you just incase he was right. I couldn't let my best friend wake up with her other best friend, who just so happens to be her mate like everyone predicted, with her, right?" She says, the old Jade back as she talks about Crys, it makes me happy to see my sister as normal as she can be in this situation.
Jade and I talk about random things for awhile, before I feel a twitch under my hand, and my eyes snap to Crys. I watch her for a few moments, wondering if my brain was playing tricks on me, but I felt her fingers curl with mine.
"Jade go get the doctor. She's waking up!" I yell out of excitement. I missed her. I wanted to hold her in my arms and tell her how much I love her and actually get an answer this time.
In my excitement, I didn't notice her open her eyes. "Hey now, I know I'm awesome and all, but that doesn't mean you gotta cry." She says raspily, and it was all I could do not to kiss her in that point in time.
"Let me get you some water Crys. Maybe your throat will feel a little better after that." I said, slowly pulling myself away from her and getting her a glass of water from the sink.
About the time I had gotten back to her, the doctor and Jade came in. The look of pure joy on her face when they entered made my smile fall. She would rather be around her best friend than her mate. Didn't she notice, didn't Alice tell her that we were mates, what about my smell?
"Before we do anything Doc, Crystle needs to smack the Alpha. He said as much when I first got here. For letting her go, I believe his reasoning was." Jade states a large grin plastered on her face. Add insult to injury Jade, I see how you work.
"No. I will not hit him. He is forgiven, during my sleep, the Moon Goddess had me look at what was happening in the real world. I heard everything he said, and I know why he did it. While I would love to smack him, he is my mate and our Alpha." Crystle says her voice still raspy as she speaks, but after a few more sips of water I'm sure it will be back to normal. When she finishes I hear Jade give out a large sigh. "Alright."
The doctor, Marvin, gives Crys a few more moments to finish her water, before he begins to examine her. He tries to get some information from her about what caused her attempt. It took everything in me to control my anger when I saw tears well up in her eyes at the thought of her parents. Doing the only rational thing that I could, I reached down and gripped her hand, rubbing small circles onto it, in attempts to calm her.
Marvin, seeing her distress, decides that it would be ok if he left the questioning for another time, and takes his leave.
The moment that Marvin was out of the room, Crys breaks down. Gently I move her so that I was sitting under her in the bed and Jade climbs in next to me as we comfort our childhood friend. Both Jade and I had viewed Cyrs's parents as second family, their loss hit all of us pretty hard.
It was several minutes before her sobs turned into shudders, her face buried in my chest and her hand clutching Jade's. It wasn't long after that, that she fell asleep, Jade right along with her. I let out a sigh and look at the two girls that I had grown up with. One was our soon-to-be Luna and the other was my third-in-command, both of them curled on top of me, clinging to each other and myself as if letting go would cause the end of the world. Gently moving, I pull the covers over the three of us, and finally allow myself to slip into the best sleep I've had in months.
A/N Hey my beautiful Giraffes I hope that you all have been having a good while. I'm sorry I haven't updated in awhile, so I gave you guys a longer chapter to make up for it. ;)
