Adam continued to read until he was hungry enough to get out of bed.

Small evil spirits darted around town, causing trouble where they could, while their leaders amassed outside the city.

The five angels took their posts.

Bruce continued to pray, not knowing he was being protected by the invisible Eriah.

Bruce Daniels had moved to Liberty only six months previously to take the job of pastor. He did not expect much from the small town, but even his low expectations were disappointed by the apathetic group of people he saw every Sunday. It seemed that, although the trouble in the town was right in their faces, the group of Christians had no desire to fix it. As long as they weren't affected, they didn't care what happened outside the church. Because of their attitude, the rest of the town felt a certain distance from the church. Bruce was determined to bring more people into the church, but it was proving difficult.

Adam had moved to Liberty with his father, and was as set on leading people to Christ as his father. He did his best while he was at school, but the years of indifference the town had built against the church was hard to break through. Also, high schoolers were just stubborn sometimes. He and his father were both also struggling with the recent loss of Adam's mother and Bruce's wife, who had passed away shortly before they decided to move, but this did not deter them from their mission. In fact, it might have made them even more set on it, knowing that they were doing what she would've wanted.

To the west of town, the horde of demons was growing. Streams of the creatures poured over and under mountains, all trailing their steaming breath. In the middle of the nest, several large demons were meeting. Balgoth, a towering figure with blazing eyes, argued for an all-out attack on Liberty.

"We can cripple them easily! They offer no defense against us! Their church is weak with no saints to defend it."

"There is the pastor, the praying man, Bruce, and his son. They are the only ones," wheezed a spindly demon named Jinx. "But their prayers have already caught the attention of five of the heavenly host, and may soon attract more."

One lean, powerful demon had been silent up until this point. Now, he turned slowly towards the group. The others' voices faded away when they looked at his horrible, horned face.

"We must make sure this saint does not interfere. Then we will have free reign over Liberty."
