The demons planned and argued how to execute their attack. In the end, they selected Balgoth and nineteen others to target Bruce Daniels.
As they sped towards Liberty, they noticed four figures emanating light guarding the town. "Their host is already growing," a particularly jegged demon growled.
"No matter!" Balgoth rose above the other creatures, jutting out his chin. "We can easily get past these angels. What power do they have in this town?" As they looked on, one of the glowing angels darted down into the town and out of sight. "See? Already they fear us." Only three angels stood between the pack of demons and the pastor.

Makael sped through the streets. If he was going to help his comrades, he needed to act very quickly. Slipping through the walls of the Daniels' house, he landed next to Adam, who was still reading. It was 7:00 now. Makael placed his hand on Adam's back and whispered, "Pray". Then he was gone again.
***
Adam looked up, almost certain he had heard something. He began to think about his father's struggles with the church and all the people in the town. Then he began to pray.
***
Oriel, Zachariah, and Morael held their postitions as the small band of demons advanced.
***
Makael swept into a tiny house, barely more than a shack. He stooped to enter the bedroom, where an old woman slept. His glow, invisible to her, filled the room. "Sorry to wake you," he said, kneeling by her bed, "but we need some help."
***
Ethel Baines opened her eyes. As one of the oldest inhabitants of Liberty, she had attended church faithfully for her whole life. She understood when God was prompting her to do something, and right now she, like Adam, began to pray.
***
Makael swooped into line next to Oriel.
"You made it!" Oriel said.
"I woke Adam Daniels and Ethel Baines. I just hope that is enough for now." Makael half-smiled. Four angels against the ten demons. The odds were not good. If they were only twenty demons of mischief, the job would be easier, but these appeared to be stronger fighters. What would happen to the town if they failed so quickly?
Balgoth spit and roared to his pack. They drew their swords and sped straight ahead. The waiting angels drew their weapons as well. The clang of metal on metal rang through the air. A few demons, targeting Morael, misjudged his strength and were taken care of quickly. Oriel and Zachariah fought side-by-side, simulatenously battling six demons. Their blades whistled through the air, occasionally finding their mark. Makael was pushed back by the creatures, but responded with a counterattack strong enough to drive them towards Morael. When he was almost back-to-back with the angel, they focused their attack on those six. Makael was the youngest of the four and Morael was oldest, but they both fought well. Soon they were able to return to Oriel and Zachariah. Only eleven demons remained, but Makael suffered a wound to his leg and Zachariah was bleeding from his arm.
As the four drew themselves up for another battle, three brilliant lights sped towards the demons, driving them forward. Now trapped between the newcomers and the others, the demons panicked. Balgoth shot down and escaped to the nest, but the other ten demons were dispatched quickly. With the demons gone, the angels were able to identify their allies. The tallest angel stepped forward. "My name is Archon, and my friends are Habriel and Ruman." The two angels with him grinned. "We heard the call and got here as quickly as we could. Apparently we were just in time." Morael smiled back at them. "It's a good thing you're here. Come, let's go back to the church so we can explain everything to you."
