Chapter 7
The lady dressed in a long brown coat, black leggings, a reddish orange scarf, brown leather boots and sunglasses started walking towards the black mustang at a regular pace even though she was well aware of the two men who were looking at here from behind a bush. 'Huh! Clueless idiots' she thought while shaking her head.
She got into the mustang and started driving. She soon noticed that a car was following her and the two guys who she had noticed earlier, were inside arguing frantically. She accelerated the gas and sped down, dodging cars and earning honks of protest in return.
She swerved down a few streets and started to slow down once she thought that she lost them, only to realise that she was still being followed. 'Underestimated them, I guess' she thought. But she was confident that she could still loose them as she knew New York inside out considering that she grew up here.
She rushed down the road, taking a sharp right turn and speeding down the alley, she turned right again, the left, then right and then she stopped in front of a run down hotel. Grabbing her bag and rushing inside, she checked in under a fake name, shoved the receptionist some cash, took her key and rushed to find her room.
She opened the door and the first thing she noticed was the acrid smell that was emitting form the room. The walls were cowered in cobwebs, the curtains were faded and torn, the cupboard door was barely attached, hanging limply from the hinges. The bed was small and the headboard was cracking. Clouds of dust rose the moment you stepped on the thick carpet.
The woman entered the small, dingy bathroom and opened her bag. She quickly wore the black wig that she had purchased. She wore black eye lenses. She applied some mascara, eye shadow, a little blush and dark red lipstick. Not too heavy but it definitely changed her face. After carefully inspecting her reflection, satisfied she started changing her clothes.
She changed her brown coat for a black one and her brown boots for black ones too. She stuffed her sunglasses, boots, coat and make-up in her big bag. She sling it over her shoulder and checked the bathroom to see if she missed any of her belongings.
Assured that she got everything that she had, she walked over to the window and peeked out. She groaned when she saw that the car that was following her was parked in front of the hotel.
She exited the hotel through the back exit. There were a few police officers outside. She started waking casually towards that main road. The officers did not stop her because she wasn't who they were looking for or so they thought.
She hailed a cab and gave the address for the nearest bank.
Detective Fillman was exasperated. He and Stevenson had followed the freaky woman who looked creepily like there victim who was supposed to be dead, but now she couldn't be found. Her mustang was parked outside and was currently being inspected by CSU for fingerprints. They had also called for backup. The front and back entrances were being guarded by officers right now.
Both Fillman and Stevenson had gone inside the hotel, asked the receptionist for the lady's room no. and checked the register. The lady had signed in as Rebecca Hendricks. They went to her room only to find that it empty. They had rushed outside but she had already escaped.
She reached the bank in ten minutes. She quickly paid the driver and got out. She went to the ATM and pulled out the credit card of the joint account that her husband and she shared. She went through the procedure and withdrew 5 billion dollars.
She whipped out her phone and called her husband. "Logan, it's done. I'll meet you at the hideout in 30 minutes." "Yes...ok...bye."
