After Ron had left for the kitchen, Hermione and Harry followed. They whispered quietly.
"If Ron is nicer at Hogwarts, maybe we could go for ninth year," Harry joked. Hermione chuckled quietly, in an effort for Ron not to hear them.
"If only, Harry. Then I would spend the rest of my days learning everything I could." Harry laughed, too. Harry and Hermione had just reached the kitchen door when they heard a loud squealing noise come from the kitchen. Harry and Hermione exchanged curious glances before pushing the door open. They found Mrs. Weasley tightly hugging Ron.
"Mrs. Weasley! Were you the one that squealed?" Harry asked jokingly.
"Mum! Stop it. Harry and Hermione are here," Ron muttered. Mrs. Weasley pulled back and hit Ron firmly on the arm.
"Ow! Mum, what was that for?" Ron asked while rubbing his irritated arm.
"You shouldn't be ashamed of your mother, Ronald!" Ron took a step back away from his mother.
"That's not how I meant it, Mum, you know that. I just-" Ron started to speak but was cut off by Mrs. Weasley.
"It's fine, Ronald," she said while turning to face Hermione and Harry. "Just don't ever do it again," she added. Hermione and Harry laughed. Ron glared at them which just made their laughs louder.
"Harry, dear, thank you so much for the extra help this morning. Because someone," she paused to turn and look at Ron, who blushed. "didn't care enough to even wake up." Ron's blush darkened. "And Hermione, dear, are you enjoying that book I gave you? I saw that you were reading this morning." Hermione smiled politely. She was so involved with the story that she had almost forgotten where she had gotten it from.
"Yes! It is very immersive. I think it may be one of the best books I have yet to read." Mrs. Weasley blushed and turned away. Sure, Hermione was sugarcoating it, but it made Mrs. Weasley happy.
"Oh, you're just saying that." Hermione didn't answer. Instead, she just kept smiling. "Anyway, I think I'll make you all's favorite dessert for tonight. Hermione put me in a good mood." Hermione, Ron, and Harry all shared knowing glances and licked their lips at the thought of a treacle tart.
"But Mum. We don't even have the stuff to make it." Mrs. Weasley glared at Ron.
"Maybe not, but since I'm in a good mood and you are all returning to school, I think that it's a proper occasion. Don't you agree." Ron nodded happily. "Well, then, I'll be going to the market. Go on about your business." Ron, Harry, and Hermione all walked out of the kitchen.
"Well that made me excited for tonight!" Ron exclaimed.
"Agreed!" Hermione added. "And I'm sure Ginny will be excited, too. I'll go tell her. Oh, and speaking of, I should tell her that we'll all be returning to school with her. She was mighty disappointed when she remembered that she would see none of us there at any time." Harry and Ron nodded. With that, Hermione bounded up the stairs to Ginny's room.
"Ginny! You'll never believe what letter's Harry, Ron, and I have just received!" Hermione exclaimed when she burst into Ginny's room. Ginny looked up from her packing, startled.
"And what is that, exactly?" Ginny asked, laughing. Hermione started jumping up and down.
"Harry, Ron, and I have all been invited to go back to school to finish our education!" Ginny stood up.
"Really? Oh, how exciting!" Ginny started jumping up and down with Hermione. "I know why I'm excited that you're going back, but why are you?" Hermione laughed.
"You should know, Ginny!" Hermione smirked. Ginny pretended to slap her forehead.
"Oh I forgot that you're weird and you like school." Hermione playfully punched Ginny on the shoulder.
"And, to celebrate, your mum is making us a treacle tart tonight!" Ginny squealed.
"Really? But we don't have the ingredients to make it? Mum wouldn't go all the way to the market just to celebrate you going back to school. Would she?" Hermione smiled wider.
"You have me to thank for that." Hermione smiled proudly. Ginny giggled.
"And why is that?"
"I told your mum that the book she gave me is the best book I've yet to read. Which might be true. It's very good, I just have to finish it to really know." Ginny smiled wider, too.
"Well, then, thank you, my Good Lady!" Hermione and Ginny broke into a fit of giggles. When they had stopped, Hermione pretended to put on a really serious face.
"Okay, Ginny. All joking aside. How is your relationship with Harry going." Ginny's face lit up like a firefly.
"It's all I could ask for! Harry's polite, kind, and a wonderful gentleman." Hermione pushed Ginny playfully.
"We already knew that, though. Is he a good boyfriend, though?" Ginny pretended to think for a bit. She scratched her chin and looked into space. Hermione laughed.
"Hurry up. It was a simple question." Ginny giggled before continuing.
"Yes. He's a wondrous boyfriend. Though he can be a bit annoying sometimes." Hermione frowned.
"How so?"
"Don't get me wrong, I love Harry, but he gets embarrassed so easily! I mean, we can't kiss or sometimes even hug without him becoming as red as an apple. It can be so annoying." Hermione laughed.
"I get what you're saying. He needs to get over it though. I mean he's practically an adult now!" Hermione and Ginny broke into giggles again.
"And what about you and Ron?" Ginny asked curiously. Hermione paused. She wondered if she should tell Ginny about how Ron was acting and what Harry and Hermione had talked about. She obviously wouldn't mention the part about Fred's death, though. "Hermione, I see that look on your face. You can be honest. Just because he's my brother doesn't mean I'll hate you if you can't return his feelings or something." Hermione sighed.
"No, it's not that. Not that at all. I like him. I really do. But he's just been so distant lately and he seems to be mad all the time. I mean, it was definitely better this morning. He actually talked to me and Harry." Ginny frowned.
"I know. I didn't want to say anything. But he has been cold and distant. Sometimes even mean." Hermione nodded to show that she agreed. "I don't know if he's recovering from the war or..." Ginny slowly drifted off. Hermione sighed and nodded.
"I know what you mean." Hermione and Ginny sat in silence for a while when Ginny decided to break the silence.
"Well, on a happier note," Ginny let out an awkward laugh. "I'm super excited that you're going back. Wait, where are you staying?" Hermione opened her mouth to answer, then she realized that she didn't even know.
"I actually don't know. But I do know that all of the eighth years are being combined." Ginny arched an eyebrow. "That means that we're not going to have houses separated. We're going to all share a common room. All of the girls, Slytherin or Gryffindor, are sleeping in one room. Same for the boys." Ginny's eyes widened and she let out a small gasp. "But we don't even know if any Slytherins are even invited. It was a limited invite." Ginny nodded.
"I hope no Slytherins are there. An extra year with them sounds like a living hell."
~Author's Note~ Okay guys! I know! This chapter was hella short. But whatever. No one's probably ever going to read this lol. Anyway... I think that if I get a good response... OK, scratch that.
