Fly Away from Here
Chapter 1
Inside of the Trost District. One month before the destruction of Wall Rose.
Lance Corporal Levi Ackerman, or Captain Levi Ackerman, depending on who you were speaking to, was walking through the streets. It was an unusual day for Levi; he wasn’t on duty with the rest of the Survey Corps. Instead of his standard military uniform Levi wore a suit that was as black as the midnight sky, accompanied by a red undershirt, however, his signature cravat retained its place on his neck. His trademark blank expression also remained on his face. He looked up at the sky briefly; the rays of the sun beat down on him, bringing a strong heat with them. Deciding that it was too hot to remain outside for more than a short time Levi ducked into a tavern on the road that he was on. The inside was full of drunks, and reeked of old alcohol. This made Levi shrivel his nose in disgust, but this barely changed his expression. He noted a pile of dust next to his boot and swept it aside, muttering about the place needing a good cleaning. Suddenly Levi felt someone push him from behind and turned, ready to plant a fist into the nose of the person who had pushed him. What stopped him from doing this though is that it was someone he knew that stood behind him.
Petra Ral, one of Levi’s own special operations team, stood behind him with a rosy blush on her face. Behind her there was a man who was clearly drunk, obviously he had pushed her.
“C-captain Levi, I’m so sorry I- I didn’t mean to” Petra stammered, a look of pure terror on her face when she realized that she had pushed humanity’s strongest soldier, who was also her commanding officer.
Levi glanced over her at the man that was behind her, and decided that it would not be wise to yell at Petra, seeing as how it wasn’t even her fault. Levi sighed, his expression never changing.
“Don’t worry Petra, clearly that drunk pushed you, if anyone is to blame it is him. Come on, you shouldn’t be in here alone” Levi said, walking over to a table. Without hesitation Petra followed him, looking around and realizing just how many drunks were giving her dirty looks around the tavern. Levi glanced back and realized she wasn’t wearing clothes that someone with much sense would wear in a tavern. Petra had on a white summer dress that went down just past her knees, giving her a very innocent look, and her red hair was pinned up, leaving just a few strands of her fiery red hair to fall around her face, giving her a very innocent look indeed. Levi cast what he would describe as a glare at the men and says loud enough for them to hear.
“If any of you try anything, I will show you why I’m called humanity’s strongest soldier” Levi sat down at the table and Petra took a seat across from her.
“They won’t try anything with me around.”
“Thank you Captain, really, I didn’t think there was a problem with coming in here by myself”
“What bring you here anyway Petra; I don’t see you as one to visit rat holes like these.” Petra blushed lightly, taking the words from her captain as a compliment. Levi did intend for them to show that he knew she had some class, but did not intend for it to be a direct compliment.
“Well, a few of the others in the corps told me that this place had decent food and good drinks, so I decided with it being an off day and all, I would take some time and check it out.” Levi nodded, glancing around at all the drunks around them, it seemed that the tavern did indeed have good drinks if it attracted this many people, considering how many taverns there were in the Trost District.
