"there's a reservoir in your eyes that you've been holding back a long time" he knew you were struggling even though you put on a mask and acted like you were perfectly fine. so much had happened in your past that you could hardly open up to anyone, you couldn't break down the wall and let anyone in.

but with niall, it was different. you felt okay with him, safe even. he would say "you can go ahead and unload it, cause you know it'll be okay" and that was it. you would tell him everything and cry into his shoulder while he rubbed your back and whispered sweet nothings into your ear until you calmed down.

although, it wasn't always so easy. you were distant. "hold me close but at a distance"
you were close, so close. he was holding you but he knew something was off, your mind was on something else, distant. locking up your thoughts as always. but it was okay, he didn't understand but he was there if you needed to talk.

no matter how hard you tried to push him away by saying he doesn't listen to you, he was always there, steadying your hand when you were losing your grip.
