When my eyes opened, I felt the sting of my chest immediately. I gasped for air and sat up, trying to identify my location.

Everything was dark. My hands pressed together behind my back, taught rope ripping through my delicate skin. I felt sweat trail along my hairline, and I tried to think back to how I got here.

Then I remembered Mother.

I tried to yell for help, but quickly realized a thick strip of rope was tied around my mouth. I inhaled through my nose, trying desperately to avoid the tears that inevitably escaped from my eyes.

What was she hiding from me? How did I get here?

I lay back down, but at once felt a bump. The whole room was shaking, it seemed; unless, that is, this wasn't a room...

I tried to stand, and as my eyes adjusted to the light, I realized I was in the back of a truck.

My chest tightened as I realized my fate. They had taken me, and no doubt Mother, too. I didn't know where we were. Or where we were going.

But I did know that this was not going to end well.
