The irksome blaring of the alarm was a woeful wake to the morning. It rose to peak and then ebbed and rose to a peak again, undulating like a wave and all the while ringing Alex's brain out like a sponge. Slamming his hand down on the spiteful box that mocked his sleeping habits. He stretched his hands across the quilted fleece blanket meant just for this weather. As he drove his hands across the other side of the bed, he felt the creases his girlfriend left for him. "Where did she go now," he said to himself as he pushed his duvet off him. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he could not help but smile thinking about the amazing and wild night he had, probably the most perfect way to cool off after a stressful day at work. The classic ringtone of his iPhone brought him back to reality, as he knew work called. "Come to the precinct quickly, there's been a murder," said the voice of Captain Theron.
Alex never complained of his job, in fact he loved doing what he did. He was a detective working under the 1st precinct of the NYPD. Being a 27 year old detective, he was pretty confident about getting the Captain post in about 3 years, considering he and his partner Bella Colburn had the highest case closure rate of anyone in the past 7 years. Standing in front of the mirror in his comfortable striped boxers and messy hair, he quickly took a shower, the ability which comes as a perk of being a man. He put on a cashmere t-shirt and his favorite bomber, and set off for the precinct on his "baby". He valued his Ferrari Italia more than anything. Most importantly, it drew the attention of many chicks and what else did he need to get his girl jealous which got him the heavenly treatment he deserved from her.
He parked his car in his designated spot, a privilege given to only Senior Detectives and went up the glass elevator. The 1st precinct sure as hell was royal. As he exited the elevator, he was greeted by a warm welcome by his boss. "What the hell took you so long Lex," he said before Alex even got to exit the lift. "Looks like someone missed me," he said as he stood there smoldering. Theron took a few steps backs and said, "I'm not gay dude. I got a wife, don't smolder me." The distinctive ding of the second elevator marked the arrival of Bella. She was not the sort one would expect a usual detective to be. She had the kind of legs that needed stilettos. Her blonde neck length hair was tucked behind her ear. Those beautiful green eyes shone over her pasty white skin. Her smile was enough to kill men, and the way she laughed made men and women both stop mid-conversation to see who made that rare music. "Ah there you are Bella," the Captain said in a merry tone. "Seriously? I was 5 minutes late and you almost explode and you're treating her as if she is a queen?" Alex complained. "Oh darling, I am" Bella said with a teasing smile. "Inappropriate work behavior much?" he replied, holding back his laughter and Bella rolled her eyes. "You mind driving today, I'm tired," she said as they headed down the elevator. "Sure, murder took place in some abandoned harbor, " Alex said. With this began the next part of Bella's work.

"This way," directed an officer as Bella and Alex stepped out of the car. The once cold breeze Bella had experienced not a long time ago were now replaced by the torturous breeze of the midday sun. She was not afraid of this. Her assassinations had come under her own department and soon by her craftiness, shifted to the unsolved pile.
"Victim is an unidentified female, probably in her 20s," said Dr.Steven, the chief Medical Examiner. "She was shot at close range by a 9mm gun. A hobo saw the body and called 911." Steven took them to the backdoor and led them in. She saw the familiar hair of the head lying on the table, a clear hole made in the back of her head. As she proceeded forward, she saw Alex frozen in his tracks. "What's the matter boy, scared to see a dead body?" she asked, jokingly. "Does the victim have a butterfly tattoo on her chest?" he asked Steven. Completely baffled, Steven replied, "how did you know?"
Looking lost, he went against the wall and said, "the victim is Sabrina Joyce, defense attorney." Everyone's eyes were on him. Holding back his tears, he said in a thick voice, "she is my girlfriend."
