The smell of alcohol was strong and the music was pounding, I sat down on the red couch in the middle of the dark living room. The liquid in my glass was starting to disappear and my common sense along with it.
I sat there watching people dancing and grinding against each other on the living room floor and as I raised my glass to my mouth to take another sip and the realisation of it being empty hit me. I internally groaned as I rose up from my comfy seat to try and battle my way through the 'dance floor'.
Once I got to the kitchen I was greeted with more drunk people flirting and grinding. I looked up at the clock in the kitchen and realised that it was half past one in the morning. 'I should probably start going home' I told myself internally and put my glass in the sink. Starting to make my way to the entrance of the house where other people slowly but surely attempted to get their winter coats on as well as their shoes.
As I'm tying my shoelaces someone bumped into me and as I was about to fall over someone caught me.
"Oh god! Are you okay??" I heard a... Irish? Accent say and when I turned around I found a pair of ocean blue eyes staring at me with a scared look. I realised pretty quick that he didn't mean it and smiled gently at him. Which seemed to calm him down.
"Ye... I'm fine, no worries." We stared into each other's eye for a second before I pulled back to finish tying my shoelace. I could see that he also had his shoes on so I assumed he was either leaving or had just arrived. As I stood up straight again I decided to ask him.
"Did you just get her or are you leaving as well?" He looked at me unsure of what to answer but he made up his mind fairly quick.
"Ye', I'm leavin'. I'll assume you're about to leave too..." He paused for a second contemplating whether he should continue talking or just stay quiet. His eyes found mine a second time and seeing the fact that I still smiled gently at him made him proceed. "I can walk you to the bus stop if you want to..."
"Yea, that would be nice, but walk me home instead..." He looked at me in shock before I continued "I only live a few streets away so taking the bus would only take more time." His face was puzzled before he nodded and extended his hand towards me smiling.
"My name is Seán by the way. Nice to meet you." I smiled at him and took his hand while introducing myself. He seemed to think for a second but pushed the thought away as we headed towards the door together.
The air outside was rather cool and fresh compared to the air in the house and the moonlight glistened on the surface of the white snow. We walked in silence for a minute or two before I decided to ask him a bit more about himself.
"So.. Seán, where do you live? If you don't mind me asking." He stayed quiet for a second and then just said 'Brighton', to which I chuckled. I let out a quiet 'Same' and now it was his turn to chuckle and I could swear it was the cutest thing I've ever heard.
"Well then mister smarty pants, what is an Irishman like yourself doing in Brighton?" This time he laughs a bit louder and it was amazing.
"Well you see, you bastard', that I moved here for work." As fast as he said that I stopped dead in my tracks and stared straight into his eyes and by then we could declare the sass-off in full swing. As fast as I won we started walking, now joking and talking about stuff.
Once we got to my house it felt as if we had known each other since childhood. We just stood there for a minute continuing our joke session before he asked;
"Is there a possibility for us to meet again?" I smiled at him and just extended my phone to him after unlocking it and going into contacts. Seán stared down at the phone for a moment before he understood what I meant.
His face lightened up and his smile grew even wider as he grabbed my phone writing in his name and number. After saving himself as a contact he sent a message to his phone so he got my number as well.
"Thank you for the amazing walk Seán" I smiled at him and we hugged before saying goodnight and as I walked into my house I knew I had found my new best friend.
