Just as I thought, Brandon is nowhere to be seen at lunch. I grin, making my ways through the crowd to my table. Meet my group, my ride or die peeps. Even though half of them are stoners, I can trust them with my life. I throw my brown paper bag on the table smacking down next to Monica. I eye Kacie, who is lip-locked with Jason right across from me. Sighing, I turn to Abby.
"Have you seen Brandon?"I say Abby shakes her head.
"So tell me what happened," Abby says, right as Max sits down. Max used to be Brandonś best friend.
" Brandons a mess!" Max says. Abby and Monica laugh.
" He deserved it. " Monica says. Max shakes his head, standing up.
" He broke up with you. So what? He didn't deserve this." Mac says, turning around, leaving the table. I scoff. How could he? I stare at him, finally spotting Brandon this way. Brandon is....laughing? Smiling? And sitting next too that kid from earlier...Joshua! I watch as Max goes too sit next to him, patting Brandon's back. Joshua says something and they all laugh. Damn, this nerd is ruining my plans. I groan, giving up on eating.
Later that night I pull on my fuzziest socks, collapsing on my bed. I power on my phone, scrolling through Instagram. I see that my post has even more comments. I grin, reading through them with glee. I click the explore button, my finger hovering over the J button. I type in Joshua, scrolling through the top hits. Nothing. I call Monica.
" Yeah?" She answers. I smile, falling flat on my back.
" Hey, I have a question," I say. One good thing about Monica is that she knows everyone.
" Yep, shoot." She replies.
" Can you name all the Joshua's in our grade?" I ask. I hear her sigh.
" Yeah sure. There is Joshua Yekal on the soccer team. Um, Joshua Inse in the 3rd period. And Joshua Redd in chem. And that nerd Joshua Yekcal, he's in Senior classes because he's super smart. I wish I was like that! I'm barely passing Algebra 2! " Monica says. Hmm, Joshua Yeykal I think that's him.
" Great thanks!" I hit end before she can ask why. I flop back on my back. Joshua Yekal hmmm. I wipe off my nail polish and pull out my pink nail polish. Hmm. I'm not in love, but I can wear what I want right? I end up painting my ring finger pinky, and the other fingers purple. As I wave them around too dry, I keep thinking of his dorky face. I bet he's in the band. I'm positive that he has straight A's. His mom probably cuts his hair around a bowl. He most likely doesn't play sports. There's probably no phone in his pocket. And I bet he's not thinking of me.
