noun
noun: grief
1. intense sorrow, especially caused by someone's death.
You never thought that a simple thing like a Respawn would change your life. You have worked for Mann Co. four years and respawning became a normal thing. It was like it has always been there. That it's a thing available for everyone around the world, making the world sort of immortal. But since the Team wanted to start a new live, it's gone. It shouldn't be that bad, you could live without Respawn. The others did too. Your partner, the Spy or Laurent, as you call him from now on, has been working there longer than everyone else in the team and he has no problem living without Respawn. It's nothing more than a simple thing for you. But with it...things would've ended drastically different. In a good way.
You just made a promise to Laurent and suddenly everything sort of backfired. Jeremy, previously known as Scout, was known for easily getting into fights. He was one of your closest friends, basically since you were living with the Team for a week. At first, he was really annoying and you couldn't stand his obviously exaggerated bragging. But then you started to get him to know a little bit better and he wasn't that unlikeable anymore. He was the youngest one after all and like a son to the whole team. After you got into in a relationship with Laurent, you found out that Jeremy was his son. It was like a coincidence that you think of him as a son you would want to protect as best as you can and then start a relationship with his father.
The "bad guys", as some would call them, in Town started to hate Jeremy, getting rougher in fights and sometimes provoking them by themselves.
,,Look who we have here? The prick and his little whore!" They would say. You didn't mind when they called you names, but Jeremy would not tolerate this. You always tried to get him out of trouble, if he wasn't so damn stubborn. Even if you tried, and you really did, you couldn't get the guys away from him. Every time they would painfully grab your arms and twist them onto your back. You would get into a lot of Arguments with Laurent because of that. He was fed up with Jeremy's behavior and was so close to scream at him about it. It took a lot of time to calm him down. You knew, Jeremy means everything to Laurent, especially after Scout's mother passed away, months before you joined. But he was 23 years old at that time, clearly old enough to make his own decisions. And you were sure that Jeremy will learn his lesson, even if 89% of those fights started because he wanted to help.
You were so absorbed in thought you didn't notice someone taking a seat next to you, gently embracing you. Only when you noticed the faint scent of black coffee mixed with the scent of smoke, you looked up.
,,I-I'm sorry, I didn't notice you're back already." You apologized, scooting a little bit closer to him.
,,Don't worry, it's nothing you need to apologize for." he replied, with a slight tone of comfort in his voice. At least you thought so. Your mind went back to the accident. You never thought a human being could fly that far when getting hit by a car. Before you knew it, tears started to fall. You curled up into a ball in his arms and hid your face in your hands. You felt like you annoyed him with your constant crying, but at the same time you were so thankful that he was there. Holding you. Comforting you.
,,I...I don't--" You couldn't finish your sentence.
,,Shh...take deep breaths, (Y/N)" Was all Laurent said. He knew why you were crying. It has been a month since Jeremy's Death, but neither he or you could get over it. But he would always make sure you're not alone. You thought about all his little gestures. Whenever you were stuck in thoughts about Jeremy and started shaking a little or looked in the distance, Laurent took you into an embrace, calming you down. No words said. He was silently mourning with you. You were thankful for that. Thinking about that calmed you down a little and soon you laid exhausted in his arms. He gently ran his fingers through your (h/c) (h/l) hair, making you sleepy. You smiled. You couldn't be more lucky to have someone like Laurent, helping you through those dark times.

Yeah, that ending might be a bit cheesy. It was just something quick I wrote because I felt like it *shrug*
