Chapter 5: A Turn for the Worst

Sonic sat down on the couch, waiting. Tails sat down in a couch in front of Sonic. Johnny and Jim were sitting close by Sonic. "Hey...um...Johnny and Jim, right? Yeah, how about you two go meet up with everyone else" Tails suggested. The two nodded and got up. "And...uh...sorry for Shadow's behavior back there, he's just a nit overprotective of us now" Tails apologized. "Well it's quite all right" Johnny said. Jim muttered something and followed Johnny.

Sonic just sat there, still. "So...what happened out there?" Tails asked. Sonic fixated a new spot in his couch to feel more comfortable. "I went out looking for you guys. I was trapped and about to get killed, then these guys helped me" he pointed at Johnny and Jim as they sat down.

Jim had his elbow resting on his knee and placing his forehead. He sighed. "Something wrong, Jim?" Sonic asked. Jim looked up. "What? Oh...uh..it's nothing. I'm just not over Alex's loss. And, now I'm all alone. No one left alive in my family here" Jim said with a sad sigh following. 

"And what sucks more is that I can't find my son. But what's the point? He's already dead anyways" Jim said. "Who was your son?" Sonic asked.

"His name's Knuckles the Echidna" Jim said.

Sonic's eyes widened. "Tails, is he here?" Sonic asked. Tails nodded. Jim looked confused. "Knuckles!" Tails said. 

Knuckles came through a door Sand said, "What?" He suddenly stopped at the sight of Jim. Jim looked at Knuckles. "Dad!" Knuckles ran to his father and hugged him.

"Kn-Knuckles!" Jim started crying with tears of joy. "I thought you were dead" Jim said. 

Knuckles nodded. "I thought you were dead. I'm so glad to see ya again!" Knuckles cried. Jim released the hug and looked at Knuckles. He then looked at Sonic and frowned. "Son, are you  friends with this person?" he asked Knuckles, pointing at Sonic.

Knuckles nodded. "Yep, he's a great guy" Knuckles said. Jim couldn't help but laugh. But soon, his laughing face to turned grim. "Great, huh? Well he's the reason why uncle Alex is dead!" Knuckles looked at Sonic, his mouth open.

"W-what?!" Knuckles asked in shock. Sonic backed away. Knuckles then rushed at him. But, he was stopped by Johnny, who rushed his way in front of Sonic. "Knuckles, chill. It isn't Sonic's fault. Jim is just in a bad mood" Johnny said, defending Sonic.

Knuckles looked up at Johnny, then at Sonic. Knuckles calmed down, and backed away. "Good. Now lets all just relax and sit down" Johnny said. Everyone went to sit down, but then they all heard the windows crash. 

"What the hell?!" Johnny screamed. They all saw Tails run to them, a gun in his hand. "Guys, bad nwes! The walkers found their way here and are trying to get in! We gotta go! NOW!" Tails said. Everyone jumped to their feet and grabbed their things.

"Hurry up!" Amy yelled. "The walkers are getting in!" One walker made it in. "Sonic! Behind you!" Silver yelled. Sonic looked behind him and saw the walker in front of him. It tackled him to the ground and attempted to bite him. Sonic's gun was on a holster on his back, so he couldn't get it.

He tried to fight back, but the walker seemed fierce. It was gonna bite him. But then, it dropped dead on him. He threw it off of him and got up. He looked at Amy, who had a bow in her hands, holding it in a position that showed she was the one who shot the walker. "Thanks, Amy" Sonic said. She nodded.

"No time for chit chat! We gotta get outta here!" Johnny said. "But where?" Knuckles asked. "Yeah, walkers are all over this place. And we gotta leave fast cause the boards aren't gonna hold them off forever!" Tails said.

"The upstairs!" Sonic suddenly said. Everyone looked at the staircase leading to the second floor. They saw a walker coming out of it. "We can't! They're walkers there!" Tails said. "It's the only idea we got! I'm sure we can fight of a couple of walkers rather than a million!" Johnny said.

Tails looked at Johnny, then the ground, then back up. "Lets go!" he said. "Follow me!" Johnny said. He ran to the staircase and hit the walker's head with the back of the gun. It fell to the floor. They were on the second floor. There then was a ladder leading to the roof. Johnny ran to it and started climbing. "C'mon!" he yelled.

Everyone else followed. They were now on the roof. "Okay...Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Silver, Amy.......where's Jim?!" Johnny asked loudly. Then they heard a man struggling. Knuckles looked down and saw a walker trying to get Jim. "Dad!" Knuckles yelled. He shot the walker that was trying to get Jim. "Thanks, son" Jim said, climbing up the ladders.

Johnny looked at the other roofs and he gaped. "G-guys!" he yelled. They all looked at him. "Oh my God..." Sonic said. Walkers were on the roofs of the building next to them. They had no where left to run.......They were trapped....
