My eyelids were heavy. I try to think back but it was all a blur. I don't remember anything, my name barely comes to mind. What will I see if I open my eyes? What is this feeling? Everything seems to swirl around my head, blurry images appear in the darkness.
It feels as if memories are trying to come back yet to no avail. My head ached, the images kept repeating yet I see nothing. A word is at the back of my head to describe what I'm feeling. Fear? Hardly. Frustration. Yes, there was frustration as I try to remember what happened.
Losing hope of regaining some memories, I open my eyes. The images fade away into the bright room. My body was laid in bed, it seemed to be a normal room. There was a desk with papers and a pen. Sitting up, I see more of the room. It had a vanity, dresser and even a window with a view. It would almost seem like I'm in a normal situation if it weren't for the random images that appeared ever so often. I started to reach for the note on the desk, my grip on it felt weak. As if I haven't used my body for days, I peel off the wax stamp and start to read the note.
Dear Teales,
I'm sure you have plenty of questions, but I can only answer a few. This is your home, your memories have been altered so you aren't mentally affected negatively. The only side effects should be head pain and minor hallucinations, I left painkillers on the desk next to this note if the head pains become an annoyance. Machines, programmed by me, will be taking care of you. I have left a manual if you are confused about anything.
You will not be receiving any more letters from me, this is the only way you can stay safe. Do not leave this home. I know it may sound absurd but you mustn't leave at any cost. Do not listen to voices that whisper, and never read any other note. No matter how curious you get. This is a precaution, I've locked all the windows and doors. Never open another note other than this.
Never follow the voice.
The note ends abruptly, there was no signature at the end to indicate someone writing this. Yet the way it ends disturbs me. Within the note, the only useful information was my name and what the little bottle next to the note has. I open the lid and pop a painkiller in my mouth. Then a second thought came to me. Minor hallucinations. Was that why blurry images kept appearing? The idea doesn't settle well for me, it feels as if something is missing.
My thoughts became interrupted by the sound of my stomach calling for food. With that sound came like a cue, a small machine of some kind went toward me. It held a plater of almost fresh looking food, the aroma made my stomach growl louder. I took the plater and sat at the desk, I didn't question it.
Finishing the last bite of food, I get up from my desk. I start to look around only to have my eyes land on the window. The more I looked at it, the more it seemed off. Almost fake. I head to the window, stopping only a few inches away. I tap the glass. It felt more like a screen of a television than glass. Was it just fake? I decided to leave it be and head to bed.
Before falling asleep though, there was still a thought at the back of my head. Regarding the note, it wasn't very informative yet it sent chills down my spine. I felt like someone or something was watching me after reading it. A question lingers in my mind as I fall asleep...
What voice was it talking about?
