FEYRE P.O.V
"Mama?" the baby opened its eyes for the first time. My gravity shifted. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I did not deserve this. I could not deserve this. But here she was, a miracle in our lives.
"Rhys?" I choked back a sob. "You might want to come here right now..."
He sped into the room, looking worried, but then he saw what our baby, Amelia, had done, his features transformed, and a silver lining suddenly coated his eyes.
"Beautiful." he breathed. "Absolutely..."
Amelia reached out her pudgy arms. She had Rhys's beautiful violet eyes, and my mouth- my dead father's mouth, the little voice that compared shapes to paint. But for once, I did not allow that side of me to take over. I was too happy, too content, to allow some stain of sadness land on this cloth of paradise.
Amelia had Rhys's black hair too, but only tufts of it grew at the moment. My heart had not split its love in any way, yet it had grown bigger, to fit this beautiful Cauldron- given gift. I was so lucky. We were so lucky. And looking into Rhy's eyes. I knew that he felt the same way.
"Is she... immortal?" I dared to ask. When she had been born, just a couple of minutes ago, I had been in too much pain to ask. Rhys, against my best wishes, had gone out, to get me food. All the others were out, so we had to handle by ourselves.
"3/4" he whispered. How he could tell, I had no clue. "I'm full immortal, you are half immortal... So it makes sense she is 3/4 immortal. The heart is half human, everything else... Fae."
I heard a sharp intake of breath. Mine. I was expecting entirely immortal. "I'm sorry, Rhys."
His head snapped up. "Why?"
"Amelia will be more vulnerable, with half a human heart. And it was because of me..."
His hand was under my chin and he tilted my face upwards. "Don't you ever think that. Remember what I said. It's better to have a human heart then not have a heart at all." he hissed.
I read his expression, the tightening of his mouth, the anger in his eyes, and reseeded. But I still knew hat her vulnerability given to her by me would cost all of us in the future.
