Mylord?... what are your commands? Stannis turned around, took a deep breath and whispered: ,,I...I honestly dont know." From now on silence filled the night and darkness enclosed the castle. No voice, no sound. Nothing. ,, Maybe we should sleep over this and discuss our defense plan in the council." It was a miserable try to break the silence. ,,Well then Maester, go to bed we will see us tomorrow. I'd rather stay here on the top of the wall to think about all of this." It was his favourite place years ago when he was a child. He climed at the very top of the wall nearly everyday to watch the wind sweep around the fields or how the waves collide with the stones. It was a peaceful time without wars, mad kings or rebellions. But times have changed with the thron ascend of Aerys Targaryen. Now the green fields are filled with blood and dead bodies crush with the waves against the stones at the bottom of the cliff. Anyways this isn't important right now we just need to let this castle and this great family survive.
At the next morning Stannis hold an emergency-speech in the big hall. It sounded more like a hopeless try to blandish the situation but he couldn't really hide his fear and his despair. Together we checked our men, stocks und defensive weapons but It didn't looked good. Our food stocks are only half filled because nobody expected that Storm's End will be sieged. Robert took most of his army to the battles in the Reach. Every stormlord is on Roberts side and the few that were on Aerys side are defeated in the battles of Summerhall so nobody thought that Aerys supporters are going to be in the stormlands and think of a siege. And even if we would have enough food we can't defend Storm's End with 500 men. Storm's End has never been captured through a siege. It's Walls are high and thick and the gate is only passable if you can manage many losses. But 500 against 50000 sounds indeed very hopeless. But surrendering is no option. Even if their troops overrun our walls we rather fight till our last man is dead before we surrender. We only had 1 more day to plan our defense so Stannis sent every man who can shoot with a bow to the top of the walls. The squires had to fill the quivers with arrows and get stones at the wall and the builders needed to check that the walls had no gap. Thats it. These were our only possibilitys to defend the castle. This afternoon nearly everybody was in haste to get his job done. Some were just staying in their homes praying to the seven gods to survive this but one thing is sure. Nobody slept tonight.
