Chapter 1
~~~
"Alice, get ready, please. It's time for breakfast."
I was awoken from my slumber by Rena knocking on the door. As I lift my sleepy eye lids I look at the grandfather clock in the corner of the bedroom to see its 7:03. Realizing how early it is I fall back to sleep.
"Alice, wake up!"
I open my eyes again to see an angry greenish-blonde haired girl looking down on me.
"Yes, may I help you?" I ask lazily, covering my face with the blanket.
"No. I'm going to help you," She yanks the blanket off the bed, "Help you get out of bed."
I moaned in agony. "Do I have to?" I slowly place my feet to the ground and stand up.
"Yes you have to and if you don't I'll make you. Look at the time it's 7: 56." Rena folds the blanket in her arms and carefuly places it on the un-made bed. "I'll be back in 4 minutes to check on you."
Once she left, I first went to the closet for some clothes and dressed myself in an over-sized red shirt, black sweat pants, and pulled my ivy hair into a side pony tail.
Trudging down the stair case into the dining room, I could hear Elsword complaining, as usual, "Where's Alice? I'm hungry."
"Don't just blame Alice. We were waiting on you too," a purple haired mage sitting in her chair at the oak wood table snapped at pacing boy.
No one seemed to notice my arrival so I quietly placed myself in an empty seat at the table and stayed quiet while everyone else talked.
"Besides, she would be here in a couple of minutes." This time it was Rena talking, preparing an all veggie breakfast.
"Rena, can't you make her hurry?" Elsword was still complaining. No big surprise there.
"It seems like someone loves Alice." Raven chimed in with the conversation.
"I do not." Elsword protested, his face turning red like his tomatoe hair.
"What is this love you speak of?" Asked Eve, sitting properly in her chair, right leg crossed over her left.
No one spoke, to shocked from the change of subject.
"Love is putting someone else's needs before your own," I spoke, braking the silence, proud of my answer.
"Alice, you're here!" Stated Aisha, surprised.
"Thanks for the tip, Captin Obvious," The red head said, annoyed. Aisha gave him a hard, cold glare. He went on not noticing her facial expression, "But now that you're here we can eat." He sat his butt on a near by chair, joining the rest of us.
As everyone ate their meat-free breakfast, except for me I poked around at the celery, a disgusting look on my face. Eve asked everyone, "Have you ever loved someone?"
Rena was the first to answer. "But of course, I loved my fellow Elves before I came here, but now I love all of you. Although, not as lovers."
"Lovers?" Repeated Eve, setting her spoon down, withdrawing it from her closing mouth.
"Yes, it's when you have a special person like a boyfriend. Or girlfriend in Raven and Elsword's case." I spoke up again, having an excuse not to eat the food.
"Alice is correct." Confirmed Raven, doing the same as I did with my utensil.
"Have you, Raven, ever had a lover?" Asked Eve now turning her attention to the half nasord.
"No, not really."
Huh? Did he just look at me? What's that about? Is there something on my face? Cautiously so no one can see me, I feel around my face to check if there is something and in the end there's nothing. I look up and stare at him for a moment before I'm called back to reality.
"Alice, we have another mission to do at Feita where Chung is waiting for us," said Aisha excitedly.
For two years, Chung has been away to train his hardest to be come stronger. He announced he'd be back once he completed his quest and today's the day he comes back so I'm sure everyone's over joyed.
"But," countinued Aisha, her expression saddening. "You can't come with us for this, so you have to stay here."
"Oh, okay. I'll . . . I'll be in my room." I stood on my feet with, my heart tightly clenching, as if a hand was squeezing it with all their might. Misery rained over me like a waterfall crashing against the rocks at the bottom of a lake.
I shuffled to the base of the stair well, my feet feeling almost as if they were in quicksand. Reaching my destination, I sprinted the whole way up once I took my first step on the staircase.
Without knowing, I had appeared in front of my red-orange framed door. Entering the dorm, I slammed the door and jumped onto my bed feeling sorry for myself.
Two hours later, someone goes knocking on my door. "Alice?" It was Rena. "We're leaving to go to Feita. We'll see you in a week. Be safe."
From behind the door, the footsteps died away to nothing. A few moments later, I heard the front door open and then close.I was now alone in the house. For the first time in my life I felt alone, forgottened, and abandoned. Realizing the loneliness, I cried myself to sleep for the first time.
