THE FALL OF WINTER
He could see her coming miles away. He could sense her coming. The power emanating from her was incredible. He watched as she made her way through the crowds of people running to their lives without leaving a glance her way. He couldn't help, but to feel drawn to her, to her power. Something wasn't right though it all felt true.
The first glimpse he got from her was of her hair. White golden strands and locks moving in the nonexistent wind. He felt that if he could touch them, they would feel cold even frozen, but they looked so warm like her skin. She looked like such a warm person.
He could see right through it. She was dead frozen inside.
Nobody seemed to notice her tiny frame. They past by her, not even bothering to leave her space. Somehow it sent shivers down his back that she did not react to any off the shoves. As if something bigger was coming. Something dangerous. Something that would send everything he knew spinning down the drain into nothingness.
He couldn't tear his gaze from her as she walked closer to him. She did not even spare him a glance, keeping her loose pace and her cold stare toward an objective only she could see. He looked her up and down. She was dressed in pale drags as white as snow. They looked worn, but did not have any spot or dirt on them. She passed by him and suddenly a chill filled the air of august. He froze to the spot feeling the cold enter his bones. He could smell death in the air and had to restrain a gag, not wanting to draw any attention from the girl emanating evil.
He stared at her as she made her way to the center of the market. Something bad was going to happen. He knew the white girl did not bring peace and good news. She was so small in the crowd off adults that he soon lost her from his sight. What was happening? Maybe she was gone for good. Maybe he hallucinated her. His shoulders that he did not know were tensed started to relax.
And then he saw it.
In the middle of the market stood a tall statue. He saw a delicate pale hand snake its way around one of the pipes of the complicated structure. She hoisted herself on the pipe and continued her ascent of the structure. He looked at her wide eyed. She looked so determined : nothing could have stopped her. He looked around himself, mesmerized by the fact that nobody took a second glance at the girl climbing the beloved statue.
She arrived at the top looking glorious and tall. More than before. It gave her even more effect. She stood there not swaying. Gravity did not seem to affect her. She drew a breath in and let her gaze sweep over the crowd. Finally, her eyes landed on his.
The breath literally left his lungs and he had to squeeze the wood counter on his right to contain himself. The sight made emotions explode inside of him. He could not breathe anymore. He just stared back into her eyes. One grey, one blue. The both shimmered like ice. Once again he felt his insides freeze. He grasped at his shirt as he felt his heart freeze and melt over and over again. He felt like dying.
It hurt like hell.
He could only imagine what he looked like threw her eyes. Those eyes that could kill. That guy who she killed with her eyes only. And it hit him. It wasn't normal. All the power, the freezing, the image she held. Everything about her was so perfect. Too perfect. She was deadly.
Like ice.
She smiled looking as much pleased with herself as she could manage. Probably because he almost died.
Who would be pleased with that.
She turned back to the crowds off people, peeling her gaze from his.
Then, Hell broke loose.
The girl lifted her hands in front of her and squared her shoulders. She delicately closed her eyes and he felt his stomach swoon at the sight of her pale features. Seconds later, a shriek arose behind him. He turned around at the speed of light to scan the crowd in search of the origin of the scream. His eyes fell on a young mother her hands brought up to her mouth as if to muffle a scream. She was looking wide eyed at the ground in front of her. As people turned around they all seemed to freeze with horror. He could not see what was on the ground in front of her ; he was too far away. He could hear people whisper to each other around him. Some around the mother cried out in horror, some gasped out loud. He could see some guy turn around to vomit his diner on the ground.
